Wow. Aggressive fill.

Recommended Posts

I had a fill yesterday, and my doc put in .5 cc. That's a pretty big fill, considering I already had over 2 ccs in my band. I'm TIGHT. I had hit my sweet spot with the last one, but lost enough weight that I had been really loose recently. I was even eating bread! Not tons, of course, but when I've got good restriction, I can't even nibble on bread. Right now, I'm having to sip, sip, sip everything. But that's fine. My doc says that as long as I can get liquids down, I'm good.

My surgeon works in .5cc increments for 4cc bands, and I *think* 2cc increments for 10cc bands. He is one of the moer aggressive fillers -- in his words, "Why not get you losing quicker?"

I got my 2nd fill yesterday bringing me to 4cc in my APS 10cc band. So far it is great. This fill was only .5 and I was worried it wouldn't be enough but I think I might have been in trouble with any more. This time they used Ominpacque (sp?) because I lost .5 after my last fill and it was hard to hit the port and she wanted it to last as long as possible.

It is so nice to not be hungry.

Lauren, glad to see you! My surgeon said there are 2 types of tightness. Tightness to solids and tightness to liquids. If you are tight to liquids that is not a good sign and you should have a slight unfill .2. If you are tight to solids and can lose on a softer diet and don't mind that at your fill level then it's up to you. It really comes down to personal preference. Personally I have been where you are and now, finally after months and months, I can consume 2 oz of solid Protein and I'm losing at least 2 lbs per week on 1k to 1200 calories a day. I like it on solids much better. Good luck.

Unless the fill kicks in more, I should be good to go. I've been getting Soup down just fine. I'm tight enough that I have to sip (which I've never had to do before), but not so tight that I PB on what I'm sipping. I'm going to stick to Soups and stuff for another couple of days, though, just to be on the safe side. I've been able to get thick, chunky soups down easily, so I doubt I'd PB on soft food, but I don't want to take the chance right now.

I am dealing with this very issue. I'm wondering weather to call my doc. The problem is he is 1 hour away.

I'm wondering if it's just a little temporary swelling. As I tend to hold a lot of Water and my band has been tight in the mornings in the past. I had my second fill yesterday. I stayed on liquids for 12 hours then had a small cup of apple sauce. That was all fine. This morning, I had a Protein Shake and then some coffee. Everything was fine. At about 1pm, I had another Protein shake. I drank half of it and started having trouble. I stopped drinking it and sipped a little hot coffee it went down after a few minutes. I probably drank it too fast. I'm hoping that if I just sip, sip, sip, I'll be fine. I'm going to stay on liquids and sip for the weekend to see what happens.

I thought I'd update. I'm glad I didn't run in for a slight unfill. I feel it's fine now. I'm just being super careful. I'm eating little bits and chewing like crazy.

I got a pretty tight fill Thursday as well. I lost Breakfast, almost lost lunch, and lost my dinner today. Bit a rough day :|

I can hold very little and I haven't gotten used to that yet. I better figure it out soon before I do some damage!!

I had surgery 12-19-07, my first fill 1-16-08 and I have "no" restriction at all. I'm going to call Monday morning and make an appointment for another fill on Wednesday I'm very disappointed and disgusted.

Don't be. Many first fills have absolutely no effect whatsoever. It's completely normal. I didn't have any restriction at all until my 2nd fill, and didn't have good restriction until my 3rd one.

Lauren, I bet you will loosen up. You're doing the right thing.

If I pb, I go on liquids for the rest of the day. Once we pb, things inside are irritated and eating solid food makes the problem worse. I have always been told to go on liquids for 24 hours after a pb

lauren and marilyn,

I'm at the same place you are. I got my second fill Jan. 10 and I've been having a lot of trouble with solids, but I figure if I watch what I eat I will be okay. I had relatives from the east coast here this week and did a lot of bad eating out (and puking out) but today I was home, took it easy, and while I can't eat much, I could get Soup and some chili down. Peanut Butter seems to be fine too. I've lost 6 pounds since the fill, which is nice, but I hate to think I might be doing damage with the pbing.

I'm really scared about having too much restriction and, personally, would rather have to add a bit of willpower to a light restriction from the band than have to deal with PB'ing and getting stuck. I can manage "a little" willpower on my own, it's when I have to keep up "a lot" over time that I fail...

It stands for productive burp. Sometimes it is like a burp, and food comes with it. More often than that, it's BB Bandster Barfing. Food gets stuck, won't go through the band, and you barf it up. The difference with a PB is, it kind of just pops out. With Bandster Barfing, you will have a lot of saliva come up and your mouth waters, and this can go on and on, until if finally comes up. That's what they call sliming.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
