Hi, After years of trying every diet under the sun as I'm sure all of us have at one time or another I've decided to finally have the lapband surgery. I'm just starting as luck would have it I decided Wednesday they had a class overview at Kaiser you have to attend on Friday. I signed up for their 14 week go every thing class which starts this saturday. Get my weigh in and I have to lose 10% of that. They said it usually takes 6-12 months to go through everything and it really depends just how focused you are on it. And I'm focused!

A little about me I live in northern california with my husband and two dogs, I'm 31 and have about 120lbs to lose.

Hi, welcome!! I am not banded yet but will be Feb 8th. It took me about a week from making the final decision (researched for over a year) to get my surgeon appt, ins filed and a date. It really speeds things along if you get all medical records (5yrs proof of obesity), seminars, support groups out of the way. Are you self pay or ins?

I'm insurance paid. I've started all the stuff the insurance requires they say it can take 6mos to a year. But so far everything has fallen into place I've been with kaiser for years so my history of obesity is there. My doctor has already given me his okay but I still have to take the 14 week course this was optional but if you sign up they do your paperwork for you. Then I have a few classes I have to take but the main thing seems to be to lose the 10%. I've been thinking about this for years it seems to just be falling into place right now and I'm so excited. Thank you

JLM - Where in northern California do you come from? Which Kaiser will you be going through. I'm east of Sacramento in a small town called Penryn. I went to the S. San Francisco Kaiser for my surgery.

Good luck to all of you starting out on your journeys.

Hi. I'm new to this board too. My seminar is tomorrow and my first appointment with the Dr. and psych eval. is 2/8/07. I'm trying to get it pushed up (I'm a bit impatient). I wonder how long my insurance is going to take.

I'm in Santa Rosa~ so my surgery is being done through Kaiser Richmond. I heard that San Francisco Kaiser takes a little longer where as Richmond is usally a little quicker to get you in for surgery but since it's a 6-12 month process I don't see how that's quicker but that's me just being impatient :(

I go to Richmond on Friday for my weigh in and guess everything will start to roll from there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
