Post Surgical Day 2

Recommended Posts

Well, very excited had surgery on Tues. Jan. 15th. Today is second day. Feeling okay, not great! My stomach is grumbling something terrible. Wondered if any one else might have experienced this. I am drinking enough fluids, I feel like. Nothing taste good at all yet. I hope I feel a little better tomorrow. The pain is not bad from the incisions, just the tummy rumbling.:tt1:

i had lots of the same problems at first. It took me a week to drink anything besides apple juice. I couldn't even stand the smell of anything else. But on the good side it does pass.

Nurse - There's not too much you can do about it right now, but it will pass. How long are you on Clear Liquids? I had clear liquids for a week and then on to full liquids for a 2nd week. The 2nd week helps with the cream Soups, yogurt, oatmeal, etc. Before you know it you'll be eating regular food. It's definitely worth the inconvience of the liquid stages.

From one nurse to another, I know how you feel. I am day 3 post op. I'm already on full fluids, so not so bad. On Wed, I couldn't stand the smell of my husband's dinner and sat outside. Today, I've had a shake and some Water. My belly has gone down in size, presumably from the gas.

Hang in there, you will feel better. Trust me, I wondered what I had done to myself, but now feeling much more positive!

Jen

Well I feel Like I am starving. I have been drinking Water and Protein in 3oz tubes, and my stomach is rumbling so much. I wish I could just put some cream Soup or oatmeal in there. This is really hard. Nothing until I see the Dr. next Wednesday. I am working tomorrow. Maybe it will help take my mind off of it. The incisions are not that bad. My hunger is awful. Good luck to all of us. Diane:frown:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
