I gained 1.5 pounds on MUSHIES!

Recommended Posts

This happened to me today, and was feeling terrible until I logged on to this site. My surgery was 1/11, and I have lost 20 lbs, including preop diet and first week post-op. On Thursday, I started full-liquids and this morning my wieght is up 1.5 pounds. It is so discouraging, but it is relieving to know I am not alone. It just seems unreal that I can go from eating so many calories in a day, to practically nothing (<600) and gain even a pound.

This happened to me too. I gained 3 lbs. My dr said it was my metabolism.... whatev. I eventually lost it again when I started getting fills.

So, can we expect to keep gaining until the first fill, even though we are only consuming 600 or so calories a day? I have stuck to the rules and thankfully only gained one pound since starting mushies. But I am really worried that I will continue to gain. It just doesn't seem right! haha I mean, are we really going to consume even less then 600 cals a day after a fill? Just wondering....

I guess it is different for everyone, but for me that regain/stuck time lasted about 10 days, in which I regained 3lb quite quickly and then lost/regained 1lb a day. As I came off mushies and got into eating more solid food, increasing from around 600 cal a day to around 800, my weight started to drop again before I had a fill. I think it is still dropping now (post-first fill), but I don't know as right now I don't have access to a set of scales.< /p>

Thanks everybody for the encouragement and it was really cool running into Leeanghaden at the Dr. office today!

Turns out that during my first full week on mushies, I gained 2.5, lost 2.5 for a net loss of ZERO.

This week, I'm down .5 so far. :-

Suzanne, you WILL get there, it is tough and disheartening to not see the scale move, but keep doing what you are doing, log every bite and EVERY sip of whatever you take in (so you can see not only calories, but carbs/fat/protein, etc) in something. There are many sites out there if you haven't found one yet:

sparkpeople.com

mydailyplate.com

calorieking.com

fitday.com (I use this one)

and many more.

If you haven't started using one, it's a great thing!

I'm pulling for you!

Yes, Suzanne, it was divine intervention!!! :wink2:

Anyway, I had a thought and was just wondering... do y'all think maybe, just maybe, or bodies are holding everything they get because it thinks we're trying to starve ourselves and our bodies need to adjust to this new way of life and realize we're ok... like protecting us? Sounds corny, I know, but with Weight Watchers you're told "Eat your points, even if you're full, eat your points" and kind of for this very reason. And, if we were doing WW, for most of us, we're in NO WAY eating our daily allowance of points and therefore our bodies are rebelling against us...? Holding what we're putting in? I'm doing a poor job of forming words around my thoughts, but if any of you can read my mind... do you see what I'm saying? Make sense to anyone but me? I guess I'm trying to rationalize this weight gain thing, if only temporary... because it seems common among most of us.

One of the reasons we have weight challenges is that we want IMMEDIATE GRATIFICATION. The same impulse that made us grab that cake or pull into the fast food drive-thru makes us want to see pounds OFF FAST. We need to think about lifestyle changes..which take time. But all good things take time. Even God took 7 whole days to create the Universe. lol And some say a little...well...longer than that even.~

leeanghadn, I think you hit the nail right on the head. Things have started to turn around for me. The funny thing is, we went on a trip last week and I ate out 3x a day for 7 days and lost 2 pounds! I even splurged a little as we were celebrating and had some things I would not normally have like chips and desert.

However, I'm now paying the price since introducing more carbs into my diet, my blood sugar is unstable (I'm hypoglycemic) and I'm hungrier.

Had a post-op appointment yesterday and everything is going well. I'll get my first fill 2/15 (with you I think, what time is yours? Mine is 1:30).

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
