How to tell if the Doc actually hit the port?

Recommended Posts

I have been filled two times since initial banding (01/06). Both times he had trouble finding the port, but I felt the fill around my esophagus immediately.

I went today for a third fill and he just inserted the needle and pushed the fill in. . . but I had no sensation around my esophagus. Nothing. I can eat and drink just like I could before.

I am wondering if he didn't miss the port. He was kind of scatterbrained and made the comment "my kids are driving me crazy."

I called his office and made a follow-up appointment for Monday...but before I go down I just want to make sure that everyone feels that fill as it is pushed in.

Right now I am suppose to have 7cc...have no idea the size of my band.

Any comments on how to handle this is appreciated. Thanks

I was filled 5 times (allegedly!) and my port was completely flipped. I swear I felt something 2 of the times. I felt like a gurgling, and.. I dunno, I felt it.

And the initial scraping feeling that came from them poking the back of the port, and front of the port felt identical to me.

So I honestly couldn't feel a difference between real fills and fake fills, except for the restriction afterward.

But I never feel like I feel my band actually inflating, so I don't feel it as it is 'pushed in'.

They initially thought I was up to 3.5cc in a 4cc, and I felt NOTHING restriction wise. Now I have 1.5cc in the 4cc and I feel extremely tight.

If you think it's not going in, ask them to do it under fluero. That's how they finally caught mine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
