Waiting in Florida

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!!

I called my insurance company yesterday and they advised me that I was APPROVED. I was shocked that it went thru so fast, thought I would have problems. Now I need to wait for my letter and not sure what happens after that.. ( can anyone else help in that area??)

Now I am also getting a little nervous about the procedure. I hear things about people not being able to swallow (what is that like is it scary?) also what about the pain and how long will I be off work?,etc..

Can someone, anyone please give me some advice on what to expect after approval and how long they think it will be from this point and also how long they were off work,etc... I have a sit down job

Thanks:confused:

My doctor also based in Florid had me eating Clear liquids days 1-3 after the surgery. That is Water, broth, natural or sugar free juice and clear Jello. Day four I started and am still on creamy liquids. Like 100% blended Soups, Protein drinks, cream of wheat that is Soup like consistancy.

The hardest part I found was my friends bringing over foods for my family to cook, it smelled so good and I wanted to eat it. The other hard part was tv commercials. Every other one is about food, and when you can't eat it, it is torture.

I recomend getting dvds to watch so you won't be bombared with food ads while you are recovering.

I also bought cross stitch to do to occupy my time. While I was on really strong pain meds it was hard to read a book. Tee Hee.

I'm going to be weighted tomorrow, but my scale says at least 10 pounds this week.

Hi Melissa,

I'm Marsha and I live in FLorida too (south florida). I was just like you a few years ago when I had my lapband placed. Now, I actually like to see photographs of myself. I'm not at my perfect weight yet but I actually like myself again. Keep the pictures you don't like and take them out on days you struggle through (when you get your band). For me, my old pictures helped me to look back and see what I had accomplished even if it was only a few pounds. It also help me remember where I didn't want to go back to. I also have an old pair of pants (size 24). Every once in a while I take them out and put them on and give myself a big pat on the back. It may sound silly but you will have tough days with the band and these things can help you get through them!

Good luck with your journey!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
