Hi, I have been looking for a good website to join for support and it looks like I found it. I had my lap band surgery on 9/20/07 and weighed in at 237 lbs. I had one adjustment in November. I go to my doctor this Friday (Dr. Robert Quinlan). When I weighed myself this morning at home though, I was at 210 lbs. I can tell you that I am diligent with my Water intake, but I am a little disappointed at my weight loss. I thought I would be losing more by now. I am too impatient!:smile: Looking forward to sharing with everyone..... Thanks

Welcome Rosie Red! I LOVE Pgh! My hubby and I are HUGE Stiller fans! He is from Upper St. Clair and we lived in Crafton for a few years.

Anyway...be kind to yourself. You lost 27 pounds, you are doing great! After surgery and before your first fill is your healing time. Your journey is just begining.

This site is great support! Plus it is a wonderful source of info and real life experiences with the band.

Keep up the great work! Everyone has a different journey with their bands, so don't worry! If you are not losing like you would like, maybe you need another fill? Just be patient- you'll get there! Best of luck to ya!

I had my surgery at UPMC St. Margaret in Aspinwall, right outside of downtown Pittsburgh. I did have to have the 6 months of meetings and all the testing, but it was worth it. Pgh Bariatrics is great and Dr. Quinlan is the bomb diggety. I went in the hospital on Thursday for surgery and was in my own bed Friday morning (24 hours).

Congratulations! I'm going for the beginning seminar in February with Dr. Quinlan and was wondering if it really took 6 months until surgery was done. and what was done in that time period.

Hi, I can't believe I just joined this support group today and I found someone using the same surgeon. I am seeing Dr. Quinlan on Jan. 30. I hope to have my lapband soon. Did you like him?

Hi gizzyb,

I just signed up for that same seminar. I did a seminar through Magee's and thought I'd do some more looking around. Can't wait to compare programs!! Hope it's alittle easier than Magee's.

I'm thinking about the lap band just haven't started anything yet.

From what my insurance tells me I have to have a Dr. to refer me for it.

I do not have a Dr. who would refer me.

Any Ideas?

Thank u for your help:smile:

Hi you guys! I'm from about an hour and 15 minutes north of Pittsburgh!! Had my surgery with Dr. Barkan at UPMC in Greenville Pa--what a professional set of people UPMC has!

I too had the six month's visits with the nutritionist as a prerequisite to the approval of UPMC Insurance--but hey, it gave me all the more time to study what my future life would be like!

It's great that you all seem to be attending like seminars! (Mine was at UPMC in Greenville..)

Magee's has a very nice program with classes and everything, but it's a requirement whether your insurance requires it or not. Also, they make you pay for it and it's not cheap - $390.00. Which I personally thought was a lot of money for something they require. But I am really looking forward to comparing them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
