I discovered broiled flounder!

Recommended Posts

Ok so I know it is not a new fish, but I just tried the broiled flounder at Red Lobster yesterday. Man it was awsome. If you haven't tried it, it is a really mild flavored *soft* fish. Soft being the key word! I generally get salmon when I go out to eat but it sometimes can get stuck as I am kinda on the too tight side. I had no problems with the flounder.

I must be spoiled in Massachusetts, flounder is pretty much the most available fish around here, and it is great no matter how you prepare it. Simplest? Dust with a little bit of flour, salt and pepper it, and saute in olive oil (butter if you're cheating). A little fancier? Squeeze some fresh lemon juices and add some small capers.

I am in Ga and while it is a common fish it is not readily available for purchase here. I live near Atlanta so I am smack dab in the middle of the state. I am sure it is more available in the costal areas. But, that's nothing new. You can get amazing seafood in the costal areas! Seems like catfish is the most know fish to us southerners.

Another good choice is Tilapia. I'm the kind of person who doesn't like fishy tasting fish, and I absolutely love Tilapia. Coat a filet w/nonfat Mayonnaise, then sprinkle with low fat parmesan cheese, and what ever herbs you like. Bake for 15 minutes 350 degrees. Moist, delicious, and best of all not fishy!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
