Fever Blisters and Cold Sores

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am prone to fever blisters/cold sores when I have an upset stomach, under a large amount of stress or even too much sun. Anyway, I was banded on 12/27/07 and have been dealing with them. I know it's not because of the sun, maybe it's stress from the band or a virus, but I feel fine. I called my doc, and he said he didn't think it had anything to do with the band. So I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Thanks!

JJ

I got a blister the day after surgery. Probably from them taping the breathing tube to my lip or something. I'm sure its just the stress. I don't believe that mine has anything to do with the band.

I'm also prone to fever blisters, and have noticed an increase since surgery, but I attribute it more to stress than weight loss. Said it on other posts, will say it again here...I would never have pegged myself as an emotional eater, but take the food away, and surprise!

One thing I would suggest is try adding a serving of yogurt to your daily intake. I found eating yogurt daily minimizes the outbreaks. This was true for me before surgery, and yogurt goes down easy post-op, so its worked out. Make sure you get the kind with live cultures, not the kiddy stuff!

Me too. Banded 12/11 and had one of the small ones that was just on my lip a little later. Now I have one of those big multi-headed ones under my lip that is SO VISIBLE. Great aren't they?

Hi guys,

I"m also prone to coldsores, particularly at stressful times. Do you have zovirax in the states? I use it the minute I feel the tingling sensation and it usually doesn't come up. You could also try a lysine tablet from the health food shop, it minimises the discomfort. I've also heard that zinc is good too - sometimes you can get lysine and zinc tabs in one.

I use lyzine. It "fools" the virus and dead ends it. I take it every day. I'm not banded yet, but I will desolve a tablet in Water if I have to and take it that way.

I am prone to them. I havent had one since being banded. But I see a lot of people arround my work with them right now. So I think it may be the season for them. I have a percription pill that I take the first day of the cold sore and it cuts them down to less then a week. I travel with this pill.

I should get a refill since I am thinking about it.

There is a wonderful drug called Valtrex that does a great job keeping the herpies virus under control. I use to get them at least twice a month. I have been on Valtrex for 3 or more years and have had maybe 3 out breaks. If I have not had any sores in a few months I take a round of Valtrex for preventive measures.

I have Valtrex. Problem is they are horse pills. Not too band friendly. I haven't checked with the pharmacist yet to see if its okay to crush them.

I take a Vitamin, L-lysine. I take it daily in the summer because I get them on my lips from the sun. I also get them sometimes when I am sick, usually in my nose.

I bet it's just from the stress of surgery.

Hey, I am a Dental Hygienist and I ALWAYS recommend the supplement Lysine to my patients that have recurring outbreaks. It is the best thing next to the over-the-counter meds.

Zovirax..is here in USA and it does work!!!

In and out of the cold, and very, drying heat.. this is the worst time of year for me too. My lips were irritated after surgery, but with the Zovirax- no blister. Stress is my worst cause- as precaution , when I can recognize stress, I use this stuff and NO BLISTER! I suffered terribly for years and NOTHING REALLY worked. Good luck.

My gyn said that it's ok to crush valtrex or dissolve them in Water. He also said..if all else fails and I can't swallow them..I can always insert them in another place. (shocked)...He said the body will pick up the medicine and process it just like if we swallow it.

My question is this..Is L-Lysine and Valtrex ok for our band? It's not like a NSAID or anything is it?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
