Hi there! I am also on my first week of pre-op. If you can do the Protein shakes with skim milk, there are lots of ways to be inventive with them. Use extracts (just a few drops). If I get 3 or sometimes 4 Protein Shakes in each day along with ice pops and sugar free Jello, I can manage to get through the day. If you go to a good Vitamin store, try the nectar Protein Shakes. They are clear liquid using only Water. fruit tasting but filling! Good luck and remnember just one meal at a time.

I am with you here!

Have you seen the Better Than Boullion broth mixes? They come in several flavors, and are pretty good. They have Turkey, Lobster and Ham, all are very flavorful, and a nice change of pace from chicken and beef broth. I buy them at my local Publix in the Soup aisle.

i'd like to hear if they're on clear or not... i have been very creative with my diets, and i am a vegetarian, so will not eat meat broths. i have been making a lot of stocks and Soups from scratch (veggie broth is easy to make, as are a lot of soups). I've also been doing lots of smoothies and drinking ensure, and having popsicles and juices and soymilk...

With the ensure, watch the fat and carbs. It sneaks up on you. If you have a Whole Foods store near you, they have No chicken chicken broth. Granted I have never tasted it, I am not a vegetarian, but people had in their baskets.

I agree with the smoothies, they go down, even with the Protein in them, over several hours, and you stay full.

You're only 2 days out. Truthfully, I don't remember how much I drank 2 days post-op. It probably wasn't more than 20 oz the whole day, but I know I did not get a pain in my chest after drinking and I do not recall not being able to burp, but don't think I did anyway.

chrisann - the ensure is ok - chock full of Protein. i think ithas 6g of fat. besides, right now i'm more worried about liquid than fat -- once i can eat regular food i can worry about lower fat.

i do have whole foods, but i make my own broth... much better tasting.

i'd wager the guess that they still call it chicken broth because it is made to taste like chicken brother rather than vegetable broth.

I am on clear liquids supplemented with a liquid MVI and Protein Shakes. The shakes make me want to burp but I can't... I will often hiccup instead which terrifies me each time that I am slipping my band. Takes me all day to drink a shake. The liquid Vitamin is awful- are you having trouble getting this down as well? Basically living on popsicles. Wonton sounds like a great idea!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
