Just had 1st fill, how soon until the next one?

Recommended Posts

I just had my first fill on 1/8/08. I have 1.8cc in a 4cc band. The first 2 days I thought I had a lot of restriction. Today is one week since my fill and I am starving again. I do not eat junk or snack. I drink Water all morning and have "brunch" around 11:30 which consists of a Healthy choice or smart ones meal and a piece of fruit usually around 300 calories. I feel like I am still hungry after eating that. I wait about 30 minutes and then start drinking water. Then I don't eat again until around 5:00 and I make a Protein, veggie and starch/carb dinner everynight. I am PIGGING OUT at dinner. I eat the protein and veggies first then I will have a small amount of rice or potatoes. I am eating more than a cup of food by far, probably 3 cups of food actually. I read that when you have good restriction you can only eat about a 1/2 cup of food.

What I am getting at is this, is it too soon for another fill, it has only been a week......how long should I wait????

Sometimes it takes a couple of fills before you feel good restriction. Sometimes people feel it right away. I have had 6 fills and I had great restruction the 2nd time....I went 3 weeks after my first fill for my 2nd fill. 3 cups of food is entirely too much food. Please call and schedule your next fill as soon as possible....at least get on your doctor's calendar and if you can don't eat over a cup of food....you don't want to stretch your band. Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

I looks like you are only eating two meals a day - your post said you eat at 11:00 and at 5:00.(unless I misread it) We are always told to eat three times a day, it doesn't matter what time any of the meals are. Maybe if you ate three meals you wouldn't feel so ravenous at your second one. I usually try to hold off on Breakfast as long as possible (like maybe 9:00) then eat lunch at 1:00 and dinner at 6:00. That way I don't get so ravenous and want to eat everything in sight. Your breakfast looks reasonable, so why don't you try to stick a lunch in there and see if that helps with dinner?

I just had my first fill yesterday and was told to take only liquids for 48 hours and then start foods. They told me if I was feeling no restriction after a week to call and make an appointment for another fill.

After my last fill, I had no restriction for a week, then it really started to work. Anyone is lucky to get restriction that lasts after just one fill. I'm on # 4 and it comes and goes. Maybe # 5 will be the good one.

Also, my dr requires a 3 week wait between fills.

I decided I am going to wait another week. It sounds like a lot of people start to feel restriction 2 weeks after a fill. I have gained 2 lbs back already though! I will say that if I eat bread, I can feel restriction, it gets "stuck" for a few seconds then it passed through the band. chicken, beef and green veggies pass with no problems. Thanks to all for your advice.

First, off make sure you are getting enough nutrition. 2 times a day would make you starving. also, Protein in the a.m. may help you. With that being said, my doctor makes you wait 2 weeks before he'll do another fill. Good luck.

Out of personal experience I would say wait at least a month. It took my first fill about 3 1/2 weeks to kick in and I had a second fill which got me waaayyy toooo tight. I ended up having to have all the second fill taken out and now I am still on the too tight side and can't even think about eating until 3p.m. in the afternoon. I don't know why it takes some people's fill longer to kick in than others, it just does. I was miserable with my second fill and ended up making 2 emergency 200mile trips for an unfill. The first trip 1/2 the second fill was taken out, and it still didn't help. The second trip the rest of the second fill was taken out. I am still too tight 3months later and I am trying to hold out cuz I had to pay outta pocket for the fills and don't want to loose anymore of my first fill volume. Which I could stand to have some taken out, but I am determined to make it work. It is not fun being too tight.

I'm going to make a year with my band on 4/2 and I've only had one fill. At first I thought it was too much fill but i went home and sat with a gallon of Water patiently taking little sips and making sure i could get Water down and I could. I just had to take baby sips with lots of patience to drink what i used to in just one gulp.

I'm currently at 158 from 212 and my band has loosen up from all the weightloss and i dont have to take the baby sips i used to take in the beginning. feel free to message me with any questions

Hi Everyone

I barely psot any messages, but I am alway reading the post to gain information. I had my first fill 1/4/2008. I eat three meals a day and I know I have not reached restriction with this fill because I am hungry in between and I can eat more than a cup of food at each meal. However, I am restricting myself. If I become hungry between meals, I usually eat a fruit or a 90 calorie granola bar. However, I seen a post that says we should only eat a cup of food at each meal and we shouldn't snack between meals because we will stretch the band. Can anyone respond and let me know about eating a fruit or bar between the meals if I get hungry because I do not want to stretch my band and I am looking for any input. By the way, I love my band and I will do whatever it takes to become a success. Please give me some input my bandster family.

Thanks In Advance,

Eulete:cool2:

life change

i just talked to my nutritionist the other day and she wants me to eat a fruit or some Peanut Butter crackers in between my meals. so i think its ok. some nutritionist want us to eat only three meals a day. at first my nutritionist said only three times a day but because i crash sometimes ( usually if i eat to many carbs) she wants to regulate me so she increased my diet to five times a day but very little food each time. she said i should be eating 1/2 cup for my meals and then in between meals eat a small fruit or something with a little peanut butter. i hope this helps. also i wanted to comment on the fill, ive only had one and it seems to be working. sometimes i can eat a cup or more but other times i get full on little amounts. i think i will see how the next few weeks go. i had my first fill on jan 4,2008 and i am scheduled for my next appt on feb 26,2008. i am concerned that i eat a little more than recommended but defintely less than one month after surgery(nov 19,2007 surgery date). once i had two pieces of pizza now i dont even try to eat that.

Well, tomorrow will be 2 weeks since my first fill. I will say that bread is a big no, no for me. On Sundays I make my family homemade biscuits with gravy, bacon and eggs. I haven't been doing this since my surgery. I did it yesterday and I had one small biscuit and it got stuck, I didn't PB but did it ever hurt. I was able to eat the eggs and turkey bacon with no problems. I thought maybe my fill was kicking in and then yesterday afternoon we went to a party and they had grilled chicken and some other sides. I only went for the chicken and I was able to eat a whole chicken breast with no problems and felt I could eat more so I had some fruit. I didn't get the full feeling but I stopped eating anyway. I may go get another fill this week, I am ready to start losing again. I am at a stand still with the same 2 lbs coming and going. I think that I am able to eat way too much and one sitting. I have started 3 meals a day and I am still eating too much.

I'm sorry to say but yes. Sometimes another week or so it will tighten up again.

I can only get 1 fill a month. Usually when I'm ready to go in and make my appointment I feel tighter a couple of days before. I go anyway though lol.

good luck making it till your next fill. We are all here for you - we've been there

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
