Hi everyone... I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Miranda and I am from Texas. I saw Dr. Marsden on 1-7-08 and was getting ready to start my six month diet but I really don't want to go through all the mess with insurance. I am very healthy but for being overweight so I figure it will be very hard to get approval from Cigna eventhough I am at 41 BMI.. I don't want to waste six months to be denied. So I started looking at around and found a Dr. in Dallas who will do it for 9500 cash price. It includes 4 fills. So that is what I want to do. I go in on the 29th of Jan and was told I could have Surgery within 3 week of the first visit. I can't wait. I look forward to getting to know everyone here!!!

Wow Miranda! That's great! I'm also doing self pay and glad I'm not having to suffer through the insurance hoops. My surgery is on Feb 7th and it can't get here soon enough!

Good luck!

Welcome Miranda!

I too am a self-pay, for $9950. My insurance has a WLS exclusion. I am going out of state so that doesn't include flight, hotel, et cetera. But it does include aftercare and fills for a period of time.

I hope you can get a February date too. :)

My surgeon, Dave Melniczek in Denver Colorado also does surgery for 10K. He's just starting out with the Lap Band surgeries after doing the Gastric Bypass surgery for years, so he has to start out less expensive. He doesn't have a huge patient load, so he's more accessible, (I have his cell number) and he promises great after care with 6 fills in the first year. (The first three months of fills are included in the price.) Anyway, just thought I'd put that out there. Although in this forum, most of us probably already have our surgeons, don't we? :( I'm so glad to finally know when the surgery will be (2-4 or 2-5) and to be part of this group.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
