Question for BodyBugg users ..

Recommended Posts

I didn't want to hijack the other thread, but I have a question.

I know the bugg tracks your "activity level" - and that you have to imput your calories consumed into the computer (much like I currently do with calorie king).

Does the bugg software allow you to add your own "custom" foods ? Also, does it have listings for all restaurants and supermarket brands, like calorie king does ?

*also*

Is it really just a "glorified" pedometer (only tracking steps) or does it really track how much you're exerting/burning ?

Hi,

It does track steps, but I don't really pay attention to that very much. I like the way it tracks how many calories I burn during the day, my workouts, etc. Then, when you log the food, it will tell you your "deficit" so you can stay on track for losing weight. I also like the way it keeps track of Protein, fats, etc., so I can tweak my eating. So, to answer your qs., I have to say it is a lot more than a glorified pedometer.

You can add custom foods. There are not restaurant foods there (that I've seen...I've had this a week) but you can look that info up and add it as a custom food and then it's there. That is what I have done. They do have things like some Kashi foods, some brands of foods but most are mainstream brands like Premium, Kashi, Campbells, etc. Have not seen store brands there.

I like my bug in the fact that it is a reminder for me to log food, which is huge, and mostly to see that I did or did not meet my calorie burn...and if I didn't I get up and burn it beyond my gym time. Hope this answered your qs!

It's more than a glorified pedometer. Go to BODYBUGG :: HOW IT WORKS to find out exactly how it works. I know that it measures core body temperature, motion, steps, and ambient air temperature. Not sure what else it measures.

As far as the calorie consumption, the food logging could be better, there aren't anywhere near as many foods already built in as calorieking, or myplate, but there are features in there where you can build in the food yourself, and even build a recipe and break it down into however many servings you want. They actually recommend that you look up something that you can't find on their website on another site such as calorieking or fitday, or whatever to find the nutritional data on foods, and then you can enter the information in yourself.

Also, I find that the food logging part of it can be tedious, even when it does have the foods built in already, so I built a food that I called 100 calorie meal, and I use that at the end of the day after I've tracked all my food on myplate.com. If it has 976 calories on there at the end of the day, I go to my bodybugg program and put in 9.76 servings of a 100 calorie meal, and it gives me 975 calories. It's not rocket science, right?

The ONLY reason that I bother with the bodybugg's food logging at all is that I just like to see it all in one place, and I can go back and see what I've done in the past. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
