The Sweetheart Goal!

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of some kind of mini goal/challenge that we September Bandsters could do together. I alway see people with their mini goals and exercising and weight loss goals.

well, today being 1/14, we have exactly one month until Feb 14th - Valentine's Day!!

So Why Not Dubb it "The Sweetheart Goal"?

My Sweetheart Goal is going to be to lose 14lbs between now and Valentines Day, since Vday is on the 14th. i know it seems like alot, but if we SUPPORT each other and share tips, recipes, low cal Snacks, ETC ETC, i really think that all or most of us could hit that goal!!

ANYONE WITH ME? ANYONE UP FOR THE CHALLENGE?

:tongue:THE SWEETHEART GOAL:tongue:

READY, SET, LOSE!!!!!

WE HAVE UNTIL FEB 14TH TO LOSE 14LBS!

14LBS IN APPROX 1 MONTH! LETS DO IT!!!

GREAT! i'm so excited to have both of you join me in the "sweetheart goal"!!! i can't wait to see our end results! i think this is just the boost i needed. to have a few other people working together through inspiration and motivation may help give us that edge this month!

so, now that a few of us are in on the goal....can i ask, what date ya'll were banded? i was banded 9/14/07, so feb 14th will also be my 5month bandiversary! i'm excited to see where i'll be in terms of weight loss by that date and hope to go above and beyond the 14lbs, but honestly, i know that shooting for 14lbs in one month isn't going to be an easy task.

Hey Hazeleyegrl!

Thanks for getting this challenge started, I think it's just what I needed. Maybe after this one, we can come up with an easter related challenge. I was watching Oprah the other day, and there was a woman that lost over 200 pounds on there. She said that just kept setting mini goals through the whole process. It makes sense to me and seems so much easier than just setting one big goal.

I was banded 9-20-07. I lost weight really fast in the begining, but I've hit a plateau and haven't lost hardly anything in a month! I know I really need to bump up the exercise and stop my late night snacking. Let's do this!

I was banded on 9/25/07. I really want to go above 14 also but I need a jump start. I feel like I dont know how to so it anymore. Ive been around the same weight for the last 2 weeks even with ramped up cardio. Ive started to attempt to journal my meals. I think I may find the answer somewhere in the food. But its also TOM so that could be it too.

Before this challenge I was hoping for 275 by my birthday in March. But if I make the challenge Im shooting for 265 by StPatty's (the day after my birthday).

had an appt w/dr. spivak this morning and i'm now up to 5cc in my band. i think i may actually have some restriction now! YAY!

so now, to work towards my sweetheart goal i think i'm going to have to step it up a knotch on my elliptical...and i'm gonna have to stay away from the sweet tea. not sure where ya'll are from but here in texas, and alot of other places, sweet tea is just a part of the culture, and also a part of my downfall! lol

so, more exercise, and less liquid calories! thats what i'm going to work towards for the next couple of days and i'll let ya'll know how its going. i guess i also need to get a set of scales since my last ones got thrown out.

what type/brand of weight scales do ya'll use? i want something that will be fairly accurate but not too expensive. got any suggestions???

I know exactly what you mean about the sweet tea! I'm from South Georgia and sweet tea is BIG here. I've also been having to drink cranberry juice due to a kidney infection and it is loaded with calories and sugar. I have a couple of more days to drink it, then it's back to no calorie drinks.........basically water!

I have a HealthOmeter scale that I got at Walmart HealthoMeter Body Fat & Body Water Fitness Tracking scale - Wal-Mart

I love this scale, it tracks up to 4 peoples fitness goals.

I have a HealthOmeter something or other. I bought it at target over 2 years ago for about $20 on sale. Its pretty accurate (I think) it usually comes close to the same readings as my Surgeon's scale. And is always the same as the scale in the WLS research lab (Im a part of a study). However the last time I was at the surgeon's there was a huge difference. But Im inclined to believe my home scale because is has always matched the readings of the research Lab's scale, which HAS to be accurate for the purposes of the study.

I was thinking........maybe it would help us stay on track if we posted what we ate and our exercise for the day. That way we are held accountable for what we do. I think after I eat dinner, I'll post what ate for the day and my exercise routine. That way, if something isn't working for us, we can suggest other options.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
