my 12th day and im lost

Recommended Posts

I am new here, just happend to find ya'll when i was browsing. I was banded on Jan 3 2008 by DR. Tarracino in Newport News, VA. And by the way, he is awesome! As of today which is the 12th day i have lost about 18lbs. i dont know if that is good or not but i am imprssed with my self cause on the 3rd day i kicked my husband and kids out of the house when they brought home mcdonalds! ( I LET THEM BACK WHEN THEY WERE DONE EATING, LOL) It seems like it is getting easier each day but the first few were very hard. I still find myself...grazing, but not eating. I just open the cabnets and look and there is nothing there. Is this normal? Am i expecting too much of a change too soon? I know a lot of ppl who have had the gastric bypass but no banders, so i dont know who to ask questions. Im not sure what questions I have other then some ideas of good healthy food i can eat in the next stage, u know, soft purred stage. I think baby food and blender surprise but am told it doesnt have to be like that. Any suggestions would be great!!

I ate Jello, pudding, yogart, Soups, and other stuff. I was never really that hungry...I still don't get that hungry at all....you can try some mashed taters or oatmeal or grits. That's what my doctor said for my second week. So I did. I hated the baby food and I did not puree anything! lol I couldn't stand the texture or smell of either!

Congrats, hotmom. You will probably find a lot of support at the January 2008 thread--lots of people who have been banded about the same time as you. Here is the link the their thread: 2008 Bandsters - Lap Band Talk Forum - The largest forum for Lap Band Surgery Discussion and Lap Band Surgery Support

Drs. are all different as far as how long you stay on liquids, when you switch to mushies or soft foods, and what those are, and then when you can progress to solids. My dr. said mushies were things such as oatmeal, potatoes, squash, salmon, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.--basically anything that doesn't need to be chewed hardly at all. Ask your dr. for a list of accepted foods if you are unsure. Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
