Edmonton Fill Doctor?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I just had a quick question. I'm in Edmonton, looking to have my surgery done at the SWLC... they said that the fills are covered for the first 5 years after surgery. Anyone in Edmonton finding that they are paying out of pocket despite this promise? When I asked the clinic, the PR person was a little evasive and advised me to discuss that with my surgeon when I did my phone consultation. I dont have my consultation for another week :tongue_smilie:

I had my surgery done in Mexico -- so I would not be accepted by the same Dr's that do the fills for the Ontario patients

Does anyone know if there is any Dr's in Edmonton that will do fills for people that have had their surgery done in Mexico? I understand Dr. Daviduck will only do Dr. Coburn's patients. I found out that there is a Dr. Lawrence Farries in Red Deer who also does fills, but I am not sure if he does patients from Mexico. Has anyone gone to Dr. Farries or does any one have any other suggestions?:bored:

I don't know about Edmonton or even Dr. Farries in Red Deer, but there are two options in Calgary if it comes to it. Both Dr. Philip Mitchell and Dr. Peggy Burke will do fills for patients banded in Mexico. Dr. Mitchell is awesome, he's who I see, and he charges $150 for a fill. I've heard Dr. Burke has excellent 'bedside manner' as well, and from what I understand she charges $100 per fill.

Just a couple of options for you if you can't find anyone closer to home.

I'm getting banded in Mexico on Feb 23 2010, and may just go to Dr.Jim in Grande Prairie for my first fill! I live in Drayton Valley. It's either that or just go back to my surgeon in Mexico. Nice to have the options though.

He's at the QE2 hospital, and does flouroscopy fills and it doesn't matter who put your band in. Also I did find that Dr. Mitchell in Calgary does this, and a nurse in Saskatchewan...

plus, flights from Edmonton to San Diego, (near my Tijuana surgeon) are really cheap! (between $89CN to $129CN each way)

I'm excited....:)

I thought this might help you. I get my fills (for free), was banded in Mexico, by Dr. Jim at the Grande Prairie Hosp. He's a radioligist, does many of them (perfectly under flouro). You will need a doctor referral though. I didn't have to wait that long. Good luck

I am soon to be banded and I've talked to Dr. Jim and

he will fill and it's free.

YEA!!!

What airline is that?

The airline I seen these rates on was Air Canada. I couldn't believe how cheap it was. Not a frequent flyer, so don't know if the rates were just due to the time of year or what.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
