Eating too much?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I just wanted to check where I am on par with other people's quantity of food. One of the biggest reasons why I gained so much weight in the first place is that I'd have too big portions.

I'm 2 months post op (first fill booked for the 28th Jan) and have seen great results so far but I just want to err on the side of caution.

On a typical day I eat:

Breakfast:

2 weetabix with semi skimmed milk and a little honey to taste

OR

1 slice wholewheat toast and one scrambled egg

Lunch:

1 400ml Soup - assorted

OR

2 ryvita with extra light cream cheese and Tomato

Snack:

Tea and 2 diet biscuits (30 cals each)

Dinner:

400grams of chicken tomato and vegtable stew

OR

cottage pie

and sometimes as a treat I have a 50 cal lemon ice lolly in the evenings

See just looking at that seems like still A LOT of food, what do you guys think? Thanks!

I'm totally with Mandi--I don't see where you have supplemental Protein drinks on your daily menu, (unless you didn't put them down) to help you get in the required 60 - 80 grams of Protein a day...

I am assuming you are from Great Britian (the "ice lolly" gave it away!) so I'm sorry to say I don't know how much 400 ml or 400 grams are. I eat approximately 1/4 - 1/2 cup of food at each meal.

Good luck to you...

Lol, yes I am in the UK!

I try to measure my food by weight, 400mls is just a bit bigger than a can of coke and 400 grams is a similar quantity but in solid form.

I do take one multi Vitamin and one fish oil capsule a day which I did omit, sorry!

I throught that my Protein would be fine from the milk, cheese and meat or egg that I try to eat every day ..... maybe not, eepp!!

My 1/4 cup = 2 ounces and 1/2 cup = 4 ounces of food. I found a wonderful website when I was "logging" my food intake for my nutritionist for six months before surgery: Nutrition facts, calories in food, labels, nutritional information and analysis – NutritionData.com where you can input what you want and it will give you an actual nutrition label. (So you can see how much Protein you are really getting in each day)

I know that "tea time" is important in the afternoon (with biscuits!), but you might be better served by mixing up a whey Protein isolate shake and having it. I must tell you that after I have my Protein shakes daily (one mid-morning and one mid-evening) I am satiated for so long!

Good luck to you...

PS Mother was a war bride! Auntie Peggy still lives in Kent!

Actually, your Protein intake looks really good to me. But question, you can eat a piece of chicken bigger than the size of a can of coke? That's a pretty hefty portion.

Are you tracking calories? Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate. See what you are consuming daily if you are not losing weight.

Wasa, I think the dinner is a "chicken, Tomato, and vegetable" stew. I counted her Protein from skim milk, an egg, perhaps cream cheese, the chicken in the stew (or cottage pie) -- looks like a total of maybe 40 grams of Protein if that.

The Soup for lunch and the stew for supper are rather liquid, so the number of solids seems indeterminable.

Ahhhh, I misunderstood.

Heh... 400gms of chicken is enough protein for two people!

OP... how much milk are you drinking? How much cream cheese? How much chicken? What kinds of Soups are you eating, what is their protein content for lunch?

Squishee, in looking at your daily intake again, do they stress in the UK that you are not to have liquids with your meals? I'm seeing skim milk (and honey) with your shredded wheat, Soup, and stew, all of which are very liquid.

Any liquid ingested with the meal will cause the food to "run through" your pouch, not allowing you to feel "full" and basically defeating the purpose of the Band--you will be hungry a lot sooner.

Our doctors require that we finish drinking 30 minutes prior to a meal, have NO liquids WHATSOEVER with the meal, and then not begin drinking again for 45 minutes to an hour after the meal.

And besides counting Proteins (at least we should mentally), we also have to watch our "carbohydrate" intake.

Good luck to you, m'dear...

Gaahh....so much to learn, thank you guys. Admittedly I am having a lot of runny foods cos I'm afraid of anything getting stuck. I'm avagaging about 900-1000 cals a day if my calculations are correct. First fill next week though I suppose it'll all change! Thanks again.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
