'Skinny Bitch' Revolution!

Recommended Posts

Anyone here read the book [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Skinny-Bitch-Kim-Barnouin/dp/0762424931/ref=pd_sim_b_img_1]'Skinny Bitch'[/ame] or the follow-up [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Skinny-Bitch-Kitch-Kick-Ass-Recipes/dp/0762431067]'Skinny Bitch in the Kitch'[/ame]?

These books have totally changed how I veiw food, and I am now vegetarian... working on Vegan status. And I'm buying organic foods when available.

I'm also putting forth an effort to read ALL food labels... It's amazing to me how many of the 'veggie' foods (like Boca and MorningStar and GardenBurger) are NOT Vegan! Most of their products use milk, egg, and cheese! There are good totally meatless 'veggie burger' items out there... it's all about reading ingrediants and "trusting no one" as they say in the books.

Anyone have anymore good Vegan books or cookbooks you'd like to recommend?

Is it a good read? I've cut out all meat from my diet and am trying to get dairy and eggs out too and have have been serving up lots of whole, pure foods for the family but am getting somewhat of a rebellion going on. I want a book that will hold the interest of my kids (teenagers) and make them want to come over to my side of thinking, you think that would be a good one for that? I recently read The Omnivores Dilema, very thought provoking stuff but kinda heavy going for the kids though.

Anna how old are your teenagers? The book is awesome and a very good read but there is a lot of bad language in it. They say fuck, bitch, shit a whole lot. It definitely helps to keep your attention though. A couple of examples are:

Butter=Fat

Cheese=Fat

People who think these can be low fat= Fucking Morons

coffee is for pussys.

Low fat food is a chemical shitstorm

I personally found it to be hilarious and that the authors made their point very well. I have been vegan for a week and a half now, and veggie for 2.5 weeks. Its not alot but it's a start.

BG! You found me. Lol.

Anna - Yeah, the book is very good, but like BG said, its got lots of bad words. It also talks alot about the stuff (chemicals) that the FDA allows into our food and beverages, and stuff that the USDA overlooks that gets into out foods. It goes through what happens in a slaughterhouse. Etc... It's a short book, so an easy read. If nothing else, click on the link in my initial post, it will take you to the Amazon site and you can brouse through many pages there.

It's sad that authors and writers think they need foul language to be funny. I won't buy that book. Too bad books don't have the V-Chip like TVs.

That's one opinion. Personally I thought it was brilliant. It was written exactly how I would talk to my friends and that made it a much more fun and interesting read for me.

They're older and I'm sure the language will hold the interest of my kids so if it's informative, it'll be worth it for their delicate sensibilities to be assaulted (hah! as if!) I just ordered it and am looking forward to reading it, sounds like it might be funny. Thanks :-)

I've read Skinny Bitch in the Kitch, and I thought the majority of the recipes sounded either pretty bland or outright gross, honestly. Tofu scrambles instead of eggs? *shudder* I think there were maybe two recipes in the entire book that I'd be willing to try.

A vegetarian does not eat any meat or meat products but still will consume eggs, dairy, honey, etc.

A vegan does not eat anything from an animal source. No eggs, dairy, honey, etc.

Vegan food has to be blessed by a Veganite whereas anyone can eat vegetarian food. fruit can be consumed by either one but must have all the sugar removed first.

Are you serious? I've NEVER heard this before... and GRANTED, I am NEW to this lifestyle, but I do not believe you are correct, it is more like what BG said in her post.

Someone asked what to eat... There are TONS of foods you can eat! Basically it is about replacing the fat (flesh) with FLAVOR. There are hundreds of vegetarian and vegan recipe books out there. I'm looking at a few on Amazon and might just buy one or two. I'm not a big fruit and veg eater, but I am definatly trying new things now. Like they say in the book "You cannot keep eating the same shit and expect to get skinny." How true is that?

Yeah, I kinda figured. It just struck me as odd initially. Once I'd re-read it I was like 'oh yeah, I'm a retard.'

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
