Port Incision Draing Blood

Recommended Posts

I had surgery 2 weeks ago. I keep having a brown colored bloody discharge. I went back to the doctor on Wednesday, and they put fresh steri strips on it and told me to continue chaning the outer dressing. Is it possible I have a hematoma that is using the port incision to drain out. How is a person to exercise, or even do daily activity when this incision continues to do this? It is bleeding through on my clothes, and saturating the dressing.

Can't answer on the hematoma question, but I will tell you that I had NONE of what you are describing! My surgeon used staples which, although totally uncomfortable, kept me totally together for the first week until he removed them.

Yes, I would be freaked too--and I think I would be making a call to the Bariatric Center tomorrow to get the information you're looking for! Good luck to you... :welldoneclap:

I would definetly think this is not normal. Maybe a little drainage but not saturation. I would have this checked out further. Good luck!!

I also have had absolutely no drainage from my incisions. I just have surgical glue which I can start removing today. I would definately call your surgeon ASAP!

Wow, I would definately go back to the Dr. ASAP. I had a little bleeding when I first came home from the hosp. I think I must have rolled wrong in my sleep. But after the first night I did not have any more bleeding or oozing of any sort.

By 10 days my strips were falling off, and while still tender to touch they were healing good.

Have you been getting your incisions really wet?

I would call your doctor in the AM

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
