Patience is KEY!!!!

Recommended Posts

Thanks to everyone who helped me these past two weeks deal with the scale not moving, thanks to those who suggested to change up my workouts and to increse my calories.

I did just that and I lost 4 pounds in three days.....LOL I was so surprised when I got on the scale this morning at the club, I was like oh wow, I am happy to say that it has increased my motivation to keep going with the program.

It is hard to not get discouraged I admit, but I have learned that patience is the key to the success of the band. You have to give it time to work. You have to give your body time to adjust to the metabolic changes that are taking place.

I am thrilled and that much closer to my goal!! Yippeee!!:)

Thank you so much for all of the support and advice that you all gave me to get me through.

I have been at the EXACT SAME WEIGHT for two weeks now and was at the point of becoming discouraged--I mean how can you intake less than 800 calories a day and NOT lose even 1/10 of a pound???!!

The Old Me said "To heck with it--just go ahead and have whatever you want because you're not losing anyway"

BUT the New Me said "Keep up what you're doing with the eating right and working out and if nothing else happens, you feel really great!"

Thanks, Lap Band, for bringing out the New Me...!

I have been stuck for a few weeks too. I have realized that I lose this way almost every month. I'll lose a couple of pounds, then nothing for a few weeks, and then drop 5 or so very quickly and then it starts again. It gets frustrating, but it does balance out in the end and I lose about an average of 7-8 pounds a month. Slow but steady.

Good luck!

I haven't lost anything since just before the NY but I know why that is. Too much food. I am walking pretty much every day but my intake hasn't been the greatest. I start off okay but by the end of the day you'd think I was a garbage disposal... I am determined to keep my intake under 1000 calories this week. I am eating more because I can but in reality if I stop to think about it, I'm not actually hungry. I hadn't eaten anything for a couple of hours yesterday and started to feel a little hungry but it didn't take much to appease that. It's definitely a head thing. More restriction will help stop the amount of food I can take in though, so I am looking forward to my 2nd fill on 23rd.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
