Are you recently post-op? Yes, I did too for a long time after surgery. I also had a little shortness of breath because of the gas they use during surgery caused pressure inside. It will pass after about a week or so. Try to walk a little bit as tolerated; that helps. I used GasEx to relieve the gas after checkingw/my dr. You should feel better w/each day.

Has Been 3 Weeks That I Was Banded And Now After I Eat I Feel Pain Is That Normal?

If it's been 3 weeks since your surgery I would definately check w/your doctor about the shoulder pain... As far as the pain after eating? I had the exact same problem. I did okay while on straight liquids. Once I switched to purees I had terrible pain in my stomach area. My dr did a barium swallow which showed no problems w/the band, so he recommended that I go back to liquids, and very, very mushy pureed foods. I think I didn't puree the food w/enough liquids at first. (I'm a beginner!!) I feel a little bit better now, but I'm not totally improved. At least I know now that there is nothing wrong with the band placement. I'm just going to have to take the process a little slower than other people and be patient. Don't forget the Protein Drinks though, because you need that to heal. Good luck.

Where in Utah are you located? I am in St. George.

The paid is probably gas from the surgery. Keep walking and it will eventually go away. It took a good week for mine to subside.

It probably is because you are so newly banded but for more information check out this thread: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f78/left-shoulder-pain-36357/index6.html

I've been banded 10 months and have the pain whenever I overeat--it's a clue to me to stop eating NOW! Good luck. I hope it goes away soon.

When I eat too fast I immediately get the pain in my chest and left shoulder. I am 4 weeks post opt. I am getting used to it though because sometimes that pain is the trigger for me to stop eating.

I you had hiatal hernia repair that will also contribute to the pain in your left shoulder.

Thanks I had the hietal hernia repaired, and I never knew I had one, but that at least explains the shoulder pain when I am not eating, and just carrying the laundry basket or my work bag.

I am having to have mine repaired during my surgery as well. The doctor explained to me that the way they suture it affects tendons that are hooked to both the diaphragm and the shoulder muscles (or something like that) hence why the pain in the left shoulder.

Has the pain been real bad? I've been trying to figure out what to expect.

Thanks?

WALK WALK WALK!!!! The gas that has moved into your shoulder can be released through your skin, if you walk. I walked up and down that hospital hallway all day long... I was scared to have shoulder pain, it just sounds awful. It worked, no pain.

I was told that during the surgery, there is a nurve that gets bothered. he nerve, along with the gas used to inflate your tummy causes the pain. Gas-X will help with the gas pain. The nerve will heal in a week or so, depending on how much it was effected.

Hang in there baby- the weekend's coming!

Well lets just say that I was able to do a hell of a lot more before they found it DURING surgery. I never knew I had one until after surgery. Now, I can't stretch, can pick up lighter things. But can't lift the bag of dog food, or the vacuum, alot of laundry, go food shopping alone. If my dog starts to pull me a little bit when we are walking and I have to pull back, I feel it. My regular doctor said its going to be up to three months after surgery for me to completely heal from it and he WARNED me to not do manual labor. Also said no weight training or more strenous workouts than walking.

I Am Having Alot Pain On My Left Shlowder Are You?

Yes, I am 5 days post-op and my shoulder pain is the only complaint I really have. I take 2 gas-x strips when it gets bad, and use a microwavable heating pad (thermabeads, avail. at Walmart $10-15 bucks) and that usually makes me feel better. If not, I take a chewable tylenol.

Hope it goes soon!!!:rolleyes2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
