Recommended Posts

K I would first like to say to the doctors..."Who in their right mind keeps track of all their diets they have tried in their teens and young adulthood???" Went to the seminar today and now I'm sitting here racking my brain on my desk trying to figure out all the diets I have ever tried in my life. I'm actually starting to get a headache from thinking  I have tried so many diets I cant hardly remember them all but they said put down as many as you can, it will help get approved. I am also looking over all the stuff that they look for in the psych eval and my head is just spinning!!! Someone help please!!!

What-exactly-are your questions?

Getting information from a seminar is one thing... but before you spend too much more time pondering all these previous diets you need to call your insurance carrier to find out 1) Is Lap Band covered, and 2) What do they need from you in order to get it covered.

As for the psych eval... I'm not sure what you're getting at. You will have to get a psych eval done and many lap band providers will have a psychologist in their clinic that you can have the evaluation done by. But again, you will want to know what your insurance carrier wants from a psych eval if it is going to be covered by then. Generally they are looking for proof that you are of sound mind to choose to have this surgery, and that you understand the WLS is a tool and is not a quick fix.

I know exactly what you mean--the list of diet products / systems tried is endless, sometimes varying every month! I had a hard time remembering mine, too, but finally came up with this list (from the early 80's on through 2007--but remember, I'm twice your age, m'dear!)

1. pills and shots with a diet doctor (they were legal back in the late 70's and early 80's!)

2. Formu 3 Diet Center - where you bought their food and weighed in.

3. Redux - got a small settlement from that class action suit!

4. Susan Powter's "Fat makes you Fat" program and tapes.

5. Hypnosis session at our local Holiday Inn

6. Jennie Craig (expensive and so not worth it!)

7. Herbal Life powder

8. Slim Fast powder / shakes

9. Dexatrim pills

10. Dr. Gott's No Sugar No Flour Diet

11. The absolute best of all: working out from 1983 to present, beginning with Elaine Powers (that closed down two months after I joined) to the present Curves and the YMCA (two days each weekly), for a total of nine gyms I belonged to.

I'm sure I missed a bunch, too, but if you think hard enough, you'll be able to come up with a lot. Now here's a suggestion, put it into a Word Doc, because I kept mine and also handed it out to every doctor I had an appointment with for each file!

Glad your seminar went well, Thin, and good luck on your journey--it's well worth the time....

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
