Only the beginning...

Hello, all. I'm new to this forum and just beginning to take steps toward actually being banded. I have researched the lap band process for years. Next week I'm attending a seminar and am very much looking forward to hearing all the details. I still need to check with my insurance carrier to see if they cover the procedure. I'm a little afraid to check, in case they don't. But, I want to do this so bad. I need to do this, in fact.

I'm 46, 330 lbs at 5' 6" (there I said it!) ;) I am so tired of being so tired. Like everyone here, I'm sure, I've tried every diet out there... have suceeded and failed more times then I can count. I'm so ready to get control of my weight and my life.

Thank you to all who are posting here, your words of encouragement and honesty are welcome and I need all the empowerment I can read! :frown:

Has anyone gone through BCBS FEP for their lapband? I'm curious what they cover and don't... if the 6 month pre-surgery diet is expected, etc.

Any information on the process (both insurance and the banding) will be greatly appreciated.

Good luck to all.

HI All I am new to this area, after I have been doing some reseach into Lap band. I have a appointment booked on 7th march to see Dr Keiarth in perth. It seems to long to wait. I need to know if any one can give more info on the surgery. How long will I be off work for, I do property management and only really sit at a desk all day and some driving around.

Also how many times will the band need to be filled before it starts working. Also does it hurts when it gets filled up?

Any help would be great.

thanks JO:rolleyes:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
