"EDIT BUTTON" dilemma

Recommended Posts

I just emailed Alex to ask what happened with some of your edit buttons. Mine is still there so maybe it was either deleted when the "rep power" was gotten rid of or only Moderators will have the Edit power now. Just guessing till we hear back from the "great and mighty Alex".

the "great and mighty Alex".

LMBO.... youre too funny!

What a pain if EVERY time we decide to go back and edit our post - we'll have to go through a moderator!!!! :)

If thats the case, then we should submit a request that you get a pay raise (LOL)!!!!

Hmmm Vera never seen that "30 min warning". But would it take 30 min to edit something?

I'm sure the 30 minute warning is that you have a 30 minute window to edit your post - after that you're locked out.

Yes, sometimes it does take more than a 30 minute window to edit a post - like the daily food log thread, for example - that editing was intended to go on all day.

I guess this also means that the thread starter no longer has the right to delete their thread...

Here is Alex's response to my inquiry about the "edit button." Gotta like the INDEFINITELY Part HUH??

Hi Penni,

I set this option to allow users only 10 minutes to edit their post. I've changed it now and all users should be able to edit their posts indefinitely.

<!-- Converted from text/rtf format -->Best Regards,

Alex B.

Alex explained why the edit button disappeared after a while, and I'm glad he was able to change it. There's no reason for us here not to be able to edit our posts indefinitely; it's not like anyone later on will care.

But Penni, to answer your question, moderators were always able to edit posts indefinitely. That's why the button never disappeared for you. (And why I once inadvertently "edited" a post when I meant to quote from it.) Gotta watch those buttons!
