help me narrow down mexico surgeon choice

Recommended Posts

I have recently begun my research to determine where I want to have my lap band surgery in Mexico. It is the only way that I can afford it. I have read good reviews on Dr Aceves and Rumbault. would like your opinion and other surgeons that have a good record. I need to also be able to fill in MINNESOTA. ;)

I had my surgery done by Dr. Aceves in Mexicali on November 17. So far I have lost 33 lbs and lots of inches! My pants keep falling off and my shirts finally fit nice and loose! Oh back to your question... I am partial to Dr. A of course, but I would recommend him to anyone. The hospital is very clean and Dr. A and his staff are awesome people. I just got back from my first fill from Dr. A, well his assistant Dr. Campos and it was sooo easy. So if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I just had surgery with Dr. Valencia. I also had surgery with one of those clinics that had an unbelievable price and so regret it. Dr. Valencia was straight forth and said he may or may not be able to do my surgery not, sure send me your money and we will do it then try to do it and can't. I was impressed with his whole team and how professional and caring they are. It has been several months since my surgery and he still calls and emails to check up on me. Also when I had complications he communicated to the doctor here in America. With having had surgery and bad experiences with another Mexican doctor I was taken aback at how well my experience was with Dr. Valencia.

I had surgery 1/10/08 with Dr. Rumbaut. I could recommend highly enough. Awesome experience. He is THE MOST EXPERIENCED lap-band dr in the entire western hemisphere. I recommend him 100%. Just my opinion and experience though.

I am very happy with the doctors at Obesity Goodbye... they have done thousands of bands... one of them mine. I've lost 120 lbs never to gain it back.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
