Protein Powders

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am in the process of trying Protein powders so I am not scrambling after surgery. Any suggestions? I tried Unjury in skim milk and hated it. Could be better prepared in a blender, who knows? Also, can you use ice for your Water and mix it all up as a smoothie/sorbet? I will be checking out the recipe thread as well. Any suggestions for a decent tasting protein powder/drink mix will be appreciated. ;)

I like the Jarrow formula they have chocolate and unflavored that I buy. It is very reasonable. WWW.VITACOST.COM

I also am loving the Protein shots at GNC, easy to take and not bad tasting. 27g for 2.5 ounces.

Good luck, I thought that it was really hard to find something that I liked.

Does your surgeon/clinic insist you use Protein drinks??

My surgeon doesn't see the need for them and to be honest I would agree....we're not going to suffer a Protein deficiency in a couple of weeks and by the time you get onto mushy food you can get all the protein you need with food.< /p>

I never bought a single Protein Drink and I lost almost 20lbs in the first month... I'm now a year past surgery and am down over 100lbs. I certainly didn't suffer any ill effects from 2 weeks of liquids and low protein intake.

Good luck !!!

I AM WONDERING IF WE NEED Protein powders WHEN WE ARE ON REGULAR FOODS? I READ ON ONE OF THE THREADS THAT I WOULD NEED AROUND 90g OF PROTEIN A DAY. DOES THIS SOUND CORRECT? I KNOW THAT EVEN WITH EATING REGULAR FOODS THAT ARE NORMALLY HI IN PROTEIN I DON'T COME CLOSE DUE TO THE SMALL AMOUNT. SHOULD I STILL BE PUTTING Protein Powder INTO THINGS SUCH AS oatmeal AND WHATEVER ELSE I CAN.:)

i love the nectar caribean cooler. its like juice and only 90 calories and 23 grams of Protein. when i am in a huge hurry and dont have time to shake/shake a scoop in a cup, i try to keep the EAS Myoplex chocolate Light on hand. They have more calories than i would like 170 but in a crunch it does what i need and it doesnt taste bad.

Yes, my surgeon says we need to get a minimum of 60 - 80 grams of Protein a day. I've counted mine (did a log for three weeks last month) and I'm lucky to get 40 grams in a day through eating just food!

My favorite whey Protein isolate is belgian chocolate which I mix into Water and I have to tell you, it tastes absolutely delicious!! There are a ton of whey protein isolate products at Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, books, DVDs & more and I always make sure I get free shipping!!!

This is for the rest of our lives and my body is worth it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
