I am 6 days post op, and started mushies last night...so far i have had some pintos n cheese from taco bell, a bit of cottage cheese, and then this am i tried to have some malt o meal after my coffee....my question is, alot of times i have a rumbly tummy, i am not quite sure if it is hunger or gas.....also i have stomach cramps when i take a bite sometimes....i had it with the cottage cheese before bed and the malt o meal this am, but not with dinner (the beans) so is this normal??? what is it?? should i stop mushies and go back to full liquids for a day or so (please dont say i should lol)

I also feel a burning sensation when i eat or drink sometimes...is this normal?

I guess i am over analyzing every pain and sensation for fear of the "stretch the pouch" thing....i dont want to do anything that will hurt me in the long run, but crap I am hungry and want to eat!!

I'm 8 days out and my stomach is pretty rumbly too. Like you, I sometimes can't decide if it's a growl or something else. I started mushies yesterday and it is going pretty well so far, no cramps.

I'm mostly confused about hunger and fullness, I can't seem to tell what I feel.

If you are burning when you eat you need to slow down. Take smaller bites. The growling is totally normal. You don't necessarily HAVE to feed yourself when you growl, because you're gonna be growling loudly and a LOT for about 30 days or so. You can throw something to the monster when he growls just to shut him up, but I found that growling didn't necessarily mean I was "hungry." I fed him more to shut him up.

My stomach makes all kinda of weird moans and groans has since day one and I was banded a year ago. Mine is so loud sometimes when we are taking a test in class everyone in the near vacinity hears it, they first thought it was hilarious but now they just know it is the tiger in my tank!

I was banded on the 7th too! I've got to be on liquids for another week. I don't mind it so much cause I haven't been hungry AT ALL. Today is the first day that "real" food has even sounded good....I have a craving for a chicken taco! Even the thought of pintos and cheese sounds good! lol.

I've been walking and walking but I'm still full of gas. That's my only complaint. My stomach rumbles all the time. I'm assuming its just gas and not hunger pains though. I take sips, but still kinda feel tightness when I swallow. It's not really uncomfortable, it's just more paranoia. I can't tell if I'm full or not...and I don't want to keep sipping and stretch the pouch. I'm with you...I overanalyze everything. I'm just ready to know what is "normal" and get on with it. And the sooner I can have a bite of a taco...the better!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
