How long after the surgery does the soreness last?

I had mine done 12/13/07. The worst day was the 3rd; then it got better each day. By the 5th day I felt much better & had some of my energy back. Keep drinking the Protein (I use Whey) twice a day. Much of my discomfort was actually due to the gas they used during surgery, which settled into my shoulders. I took a "GasEx" type product after checking w/my dr. which relieved the pressure a bit. Congratulations on your decision & happy weight loss!!

I'm on day 8 and I'm just now able to get off the couch without having to push off with my arms. I'm still pretty tender, but noticing definite improvement today. Still exausted though.

When do I get this energy everyone keeps talking about?

I am 3-1/2 weeks out and my ab muscles are still sore from where the port was stitched in. Bending over for me is sometimes very painful. I guess it takes time.

Depends on what kind of "soreness" you are referring to...there are several.

"Topical" soreness -around the incisions - For me that faded quickly...within the first week or so.

"Gas soreness" - pain in the shoulder, under shoulderblade, up the neck...that lasted about 2 weeks.

I was just banded yesterday 2/15 and am so surprised my port site is so sore. Glad to hear there is not something terribly wrong with me! I was planning on going back to work on Thurs. but I suppose that is out of the question.

How long after the surgery does the soreness last?

I was banded 1/10/08 and I'm really not that sore anymore. I'm having more trouble with the Gas!!! I can't seem to get it to pass. My shoulder and chest and back around the rib cage area are killing me!!! I went back to work yesterday. Good luck I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Hey! I was banded on 11th of Jan. Went to work on the 14th. Not much pain but in my neck. Feels like a pinching nerve. Had to get a nerve blocker.

I was banded on 1-3-08 and the gas pain was the worst. It went away about a week and a half after surgery. I still have occassional sharp, shooting pains near my port. It feels like someone is stabbing me with a knife! It isn't consistent but it sure hurts when it happens!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
