Will pills get stuck?

Recommended Posts

I have a pretty tight fill and I take pills.

I take them with warm ( almost hot) Water. Warm Water will open the band.

I take on with a lot of water then wait awhile and take the next one. I take 9( prescriptions, Vitamins, supplements) in the morning and about 5 in the evening.

If I try to take one and then another one without waiting long enough in between, I have problems.

I take atenolol - tiny pill like a BC pill with no problems - I don't crush

I have chewable Vitamins & sublingual b-complex...

I have liquid vicoden and tylenol - it works faster than taking a pill -

Very good question. I have a fair amount of meds I take now which I am hoping will stop once my weight starts to come down. Not banded yet but am learning so much here.

The first time I ever threw up was the day after my first fill. I tried to take my medications like I normally did, and I was surprised when they wouldn't go down, and finally came back up.

I have taken meds since day 1, 1 pretty big, never had a problem with getting stuck, but I guess each person will be different.

Jaqui, I was just wondering who did your surgery. I am scheduled for 1-24 with Dr. Dyer at Centennial.

I haven't had any problems taking Vitamins. I used Flinstones chewables. They are kind of yummy. I tried liquid Vitamins, but they were so nasty the thought of drinking it made me heave. I am still looking for a chewable Calcium that tastes decent. I bought one that was "vanilla" flavored that was horrible and I have pretty much avoided Calcium.

P.S. My NUT warned me to not start taking calcium until I was up to the full 64 oz of Water a day to prevent kidney stones.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
