Can you do too much resistance training???

Recommended Posts

I do cardio 6-7 times a week and lift weights 3 times a week. I have hit a plateau in my weight loss. I went for a third fill and I can eat more now than before and I am even more hungry. So I am trying to examine my workouts and see where I need to make a change to jump start the weight loss. I don't think I need to do more. I am already working out 2-3 hours a day 6-7 days a week. I do 1-1.5 hours on the arctrainer at 80-100 resistance (max 100). Is this doing more resistance training and possibly building muscle rather than burning fat. Should I knock the resistance back in order to jump start the weight loss again.

My legs are really starting to get muscular now and are not really getting any smaller, so I am afraid I am building muscle where I don't need it. I have plenty of muscle in my legs.

Any suggestions????

First of all, awesome job on the weight loss and fitness! Do you crosstrain and do 3-4 types of cardio? My body got really used to a kickboxing class I went to for a long time and it was hard to keep losing. When I switched to running, elliptical, biking and rotated those, I was able to start up again. You might even consider having a trainer at your gym look at your routine and build a new program for you. A couple of sessions is REALLY worth it. Then, in about 4-6 weeks, switch it up again. This has been most helpful to me. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
