Slow Losers Unite!

Recommended Posts

A little bit off topic--I just got fill 5 and it is good--much restriction but I can still eat without making a fool of myself in public. (not a LOT of eating). I'm a slow loser but never gain it back--so I'm thrilled--been out 2 years now. My question: FOR THE FIRST time Vitamins are a real problem. . .calcium particularly. Any products I should know about? And if anyone can tell me how to update my sticker, I'd be VERY pleased.

Hi: My doctor recommend Tums ultra 1000. They are fruit flavord and chewable. I take two in the morning. I understand there are other Calcium products out, but Tums for calcium are the cheapest and do the same thing. But there is a warning with any calcium product. Do not overdo as you can develop problems.

As for the sticker Deb go the the home page and scroll down to Sugestions, Feedback and Questions. Look for "How to get a ticker in your signature". The instructions are very good. They worked for me and I am a real dunce when it comes to computers.

Thanks so much! I never thought of Tums but it is now on my grocery list. And believe it or not, I followed your instructions and I "think" I've got my signature squared away. Thanks for the time--and congrats on your weight loss. This has been a wonderful experience for me--I fell thin for 62 (my age) and I am!

You are more than welcome. I am turning 65 next month and I can't believe how the weight loss has given me so much more pride and energy. The bonus of course is the band keeps me from sliding to far back. I can't understand by the medical people in our province are so dead set against the band. Anyway, I sure am glad I have it.

Flintstone! Never thought of this (though I should have). Thank you too for responding. The generosity and understanding of fellow bandsters is terrific. I see you 've lost over a 100 pounds. KUDOS!

Aween - Some people have trouble eating eggs. I know I do some days. As far as sandwiches go, bread is a very common problem food. It gunks up and plugs the drain, so to speak, which makes everything else back up and then you hurt. Bread isn't a weight-loss friendly food anyway. Try alternatives. I like to roll a slice of turkey in a lettuce leaf. And CHEW, CHEW, CHEW. Small bites - Think small child sized bites. Put down your eating utensil after every bite. This helps to break the "shovel it in" syndrome and helps you slow down your eating.

fatme: (maybe you should change your web name). Losing weight slowly is a wonderful to lose. You remain healthy and your skin shrinks back more easily and your hair doesn't fall out.

I hope my weight record may encourage you. This week

233 on Saturday (official weigh in), then 235, 237, 238, 239, 240, 238 and today 238.2. I have faithfully counted calories with an average of 1,250 per day and exercised at least 3 days and I still gained weight. But I will not give up.

Try not to look at other weight losses negatively towards yourself. Their bodies are not your body. The only one you have to satisfy is yourself. If you lose .25 lbs per week or remain the same, take that as a victory and reward yourself with something that is not food. If doctors put unrealistic goals for you don't accept their suggestions. Take a look at what you have accomplished over the years, pick out the times you were successful and try to bring that standard back. You will be successful and most of the fun is getting to goal. Maintaining the weigh can be boring. :tt2:

There will be lots of people here on the forum with suggestions to try to help you. How about giving more info:

How much fill do you have and what size band?

Do you have any restriction? If yes, what type of food do you have trouble with?

How much in quantity can you eat at one time?

When was the last time you saw the Dr or had a fill?

I think you'll get more help with more info. Try not to blame yourself until you know you're at fault. If it turns out you need to work harder on your band journey, then you'll get that support here, too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
