Slow Losers Unite!

I'm going for a fill on Friday, no when I get a fill they usually have me swallow this barium which is thick and chalky tasting and they always say that I am full enough and don't hardly give me 1 cc, I think to date I probably am at almost 2. Is there a trick to making this liquid go down fast so that can actually give me some restriction. I want to be able to eat 4 ounces of food, you know carry a baby container to work with my lunch in it. I want to actually be full off of a Protein Shake and not have to eat a yogurt with it. Any advice you can give me will be good. I don't have to have my fill done it front of the xray machine this time so I'm excited about that.

can't help you there, I've never had to swallow the barium, and my doctor has always given me pretty nice fills.

Yes I agree, TLC and constant reassurances you are doing this for your health and for him and you want to feel pride in yourself. He has his own demons to contend with just as you are fighting head hunger and to get your head to see the new you he has to feel you still are interested in him. No question I have read articles that some men like overweight women. Oh, why does life have to be so difficult. Doddie

luvinke, It must be so difficult to have your guy telling you that you need to stay overweight. I think it makes it that much more difficult. My fiancee can't wait until I get back to my high school size....heehee!! If he were to tell me he wants me to stop losing weight, I would probably not care as much about it. I know that's probably wrong, because I should be doing this for myself but I need to do this for my family, too. I feel I need their approval. I hope your DH (whatever that means...) comes around and realizes that this is something you have to do for you and no one else! Good luck to you both! :thumbup:

I am trying to work through it the best way I can. I am not about to let him or anyone else change my goals. I'm walking everyday now and I'm doing my daily affirmations and I just feel good so I can't let him or anybody steal my joy. I don't want to be skinny or anything but I want to be smaller. I want to wear a size 12 comfortably I'm talking jeans, slacks, skirts everything. If I go to a 10 that's fine too as long as I still have my curves.

I hope that you are also losing weight and getting your health together for yourself too not just your family. When we do it for ourselves we have a tendency to maintain our weightloss. I've never dieted for anyone but myself. I wish you and your family the best!

I asked my dr. to be aggressive with a fill because I was starving.

Maybe if you tell your dr. that the fills aren't helping and that you are hungry all the time, he will give you a better fill.

Can I join you guys. I am a slow loser too. I have been banded 11 months and have only lost 38 lbs. (I can't update my ticker for some reason) I do not lose 2 lbs a week. I try to eat right and I do walk 1.5 miles a day. I just am so fursterated. I really really try.

Welcome Roxie,

Just know that you are not alone. I am finally getting to the point where I am jumpstarting my weight loss. Do you exercise? I'm finding out that exercising even if its just walking is the key to the weight loss on top of having a good restriction. My restriction is not the best but I've managed not to gain and since I've worked out for the last 3 weeks I've actually lost.

All of us here are slow loser and working together so you will fit right in. The group offers good advice and great support. Do you know why you are a slow loser. You may want to share some details so that everyone can give you some input and help you find the reason for being a slow loser, like are you eating sweets, are you over eating, are you exercising, etc.

Do you track your calories? Have you had your fills? Does food get stuck or come back up?

You know I used to always put the word "only" in front of the pounds I've lost, too, but that does not help us. A pound gone is a pound gone and it takes a reduction of 3500 to lose just one pound, so I stopped saying "only". In the past 11 months you've cut out 133,000 calories. That's saying something!

Welcome Roxie. All of us have our reasons for being slow losers. If all the medical options are ruled out such as "hypo thyroid" then I suggest you track everything you put in your mouth. For instance, I cook by tasting. Amazing how many calories go down the tube. Also, try not to equate exercise with losing weight. Exercise is great cardio, muscle building etc. but to lose weight you still have to consume less than you take in. Exercise does consume calories and is part of the equation but not the only one. I can't exercise very much, but still have managed to loose one or two pounds a month. The other thing is to assess your "head hunger". Do you have any? Do you give in to it? What are the rewards you give yourself, is it food or do you try a warm bath, etc. Just a few ideas. Certainly not the complete answer but to get you started back on side. Doddie

I go to the gym on the average 5 days a week. I know I am not eating as well as I should, but before the band I ate a TON of food and had the same weight all the time, not too much of a large gain. It's looks like you've lost an average of over 9 pounds a month. That's not slow..., it's actually above average.( If the Dr's say we should expect to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week) Most people lose more in the beginning and then start to lose more slowly.

Now that you've lost 68 pounds, your body needs fewer calories to maintain that new lower weight and that means you need to take in even fewer calories to continue to lose at the same rate, that's why the weight loss slows down.

Do you know how many calories you take in every day? I find that varying the amount of daily calories confuses my body a bit and that seems to help me lose, if I'm stalled.

do you do the same routine at the gym or do you change it up? Many people have said that helps them as well.

Just trying a new thing can help.

WOW, shortgal, thanks for the quick reply. But what I want to know is how little calories should I be taking in. I am not starving, but I guess the head hunger is getting the best of me. Maybe when my visitors leave I can get back on track. I pretty much do the same routine at the gym. only because there is only one elliptical and one treadmill working and the treadmill gives me shin splints so I use the elliptical all the time. But I figure that the same workout is better than no workout, right ????

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
