Exited but what about Carbonation?

Recommended Posts

Ok meeting with Surgeon on 17th, but when I met with nutritional counselor she said some can never tolerate carbonation? Is that true? I've always liked sodas, never diet really until I tried Diet Rock Star or Diet Jones Sodas. I have about 1/2 of one a day - I think I like the effect maybe more than the taste :) but either way I like it, and I was so proud that I finally found a diet drink I liked drinking

I'm sure that statement is true. Some can't but some can.

But isn't that true for everyone, even w/o WLS?

Many on the board say to stay away, bad, etc. And that very well may be true.

For me, since being banded I lived off Mt. Dew. I know, I know...but that was the only thing I didn't throw up. And with my body being throw out of kilter, I was having headaches from lack of food-large quantities of food. Mt. Dew soothed me daily.

Don't think it was 20oz, 16oz, or even 8 oz....it was more like 3 or 4 ounces.

Now that I loosened my restriction, I don't have soda but 2x weekly.

My surgeon stressed "NO CARBONATED" beverages at all! Her team of nurses & nutritionist have also stressed it repeatedly. The carbon can cause gas problems after your banded & especially after fills. It can also stretch the part of your stomach above the band causing you to feel less restriction and eat more. I don't know if this is true or not, but I'm avoiding it. I had trouble belching after my surgery for about 2 weeks, and I'm having trouble again after my first fill this week. I don't want to add anything that would increase the need for belching that's for sure!!

I used to drink diet soda non-stop, but I haven't had any since my surgery 11/20/07. I've lost 19 pounds to date. It took me a while to get over the "no soda", but I'm used to it now.

Like I said, this is just what my team of doctors have stressed to me all their bariatric patients. Can't confirm if it's medically true or not.

I used to be addicted to diet soda, but stopped about a month before banding. The first time I tried it again was two months after surgery and it was so painful! I even tried making it flat once just so I could drink it, but of course what's soda without the bubbles? I'm three months out now and it's so uncomfortable that I don't even have a desire to drink it anymore. I'm now addicted to lemon Water  .

Thanks for the input. That seems to be the way this whole band things is supposed to works, it would be better for me not to drink sodas anyway, so I'm sure it will all work the way it is supposed to.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
