Starting the Process

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm excited, nervous and completely fed up with being overweight. I started the process last week with a surgical consultation and will be going for an endoscopy next week. I'm glad to see I'm not alone.

Well I'm starting at 240 and would like to loose 90-100 lbs. How long ago were you lapped??

I like your weight tracker, how do you do it.

Thanks Betty,

Support is so needed. I haven't told my family or friends of my journey except for my husband. I really do not want outside comments from the size 6 group.

I'm still in the "am I doing the right thing mode". I have been struggling with my weight my whole adult life and since the children, it has been a nightmare at best. I want to be health and fit for my 40th birthday ( thank goodness I have 2 years to get there).

Thanks again for the support.

Debby

Please do a lot of research. The old posts have tons of info.

You're certainly not alone! We've all struggled w/ our weight.

I was banded 5/04. You can click on the ticker tape by our names to go to that website. Then copy and paste it on LBT. There's a thread here about it. If you do a search, it should pull that up for you.

I've done my fair share of research and I pretty confident the band is the best choice for me. I have the endoscopy this Thursday, not thrilled with the thought of anethesia but it should be quick. Once this test is done we'll have a good sense of how the insurance coverage struggle will be. I am ready to begin my journey. Thanks for letting me share. weight.png

Good luck to you- looks like we are the same age & weight all most the same & need to loose the same- LOL Hope you can get your date soon. If you go to the search button at the top of the pg you can search for all kinds of helpful things including how to do the weight charts.

Thanks for the support. Same age same weight loss goals. That is way tooo funny. Which insurance are you waiting on? I hope your decision comes quickly and favorabily.

How long ago did you start this process??

I was told by my doctors office that the empire plan in New York is pretty good about approvals as long as the documentation is clean. My BMI is in th neighborhood or 35-36 but I have health issues that are getting worse. Way too young for this crap to start happening. I have a 5 and 7 year old to keep up with.

Debbydo- I started actually attending meetings & seminars in November 2004. I still go to support groups every month. I had been thinking about WLS for about 2 yrs total. This site has been one of the best things I have ever been a privelage to be apart of. You should think about going to Vegas with everyone. I am hoping to go but am not sure fincially. I have Bluecross/sheild network HMO. Hopefully I will have an answer soon. (please GOD). I was your weight about a month 1/2 ago but have been gaining do to the psych of getting the band & not being able to eat whatever-whenever very soon. I know its soooo stupid to do it but I just can't help myself. I have however started exercising to help combat the extra free for-alls on the cakes & crap. Most will tell you the process from start to finish (depending on insurance) is about 3 to 4 months on average. Stay in touch & we can loose together.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
