Starting the Process

I was squeezing into a 28 Tall pants. Today I'm wearing very sloopy-loopy size 20 Tall pants that I can pull down without unbuttoning. You have to throw away all your old gramma undies in case your pants fall down.

Debbie I had my surgery 3 weeks before my 38th birthday..and I told my Dr. I do not want to be fat at 40..it has been 10 months and I have lost 80 lbs. Went from a size 22 to a size 12..I am 20 lbs from my original goal i set the day of my surgery. My Dr. told me I would have it all gone before I was 40..I believe he was right..Best of Luck to you

You have come to the right place for support. We all are one big happy loving family here :)

La madam,

OK the connectios are freaking me out. 22 to 12 - you are my idol for the day!!!!!!

Good for you - you must feel amazing!!

I will be 38 in July and my 10 year wedding anniversary is in may of 06. I am definitely with the get my act together for 40. My Dr. had assured me this would be the most challenging positive change I will make in regards to obtaining a healthy weight.

My goal to be be 40 and feel fabulous.

I did the same thing and It was the best thing for me too!! Good luck to you!!

Thanks Betty,

Support is so needed. I haven't told my family or friends of my journey except for my husband. I really do not want outside comments from the size 6 group.

I'm still in the "am I doing the right thing mode". I have been struggling with my weight my whole adult life and since the children, it has been a nightmare at best. I want to be health and fit for my 40th birthday ( thank goodness I have 2 years to get there).

Thanks again for the support.

Debby

Hi everyone,

I did the endoscopy last Thursday. Not really a big deal except I lost a full day to sleep from the anes. I have the cardio this week and have a slew of appointments to make. My goal is to be completed with the consults and begin the insurance waiting game by april 1. I'm getting more at ease with this process and reading everyone posts. The support flowing around is tremondous. I had a long talk with DH. I shared with him that I decided not to tell anyone, including my mother. We both agree although the people in our lives are wonderful. however, are not the people I want to bare my skeltons to or weight loss demons. Thank you for all those who posted their feelings on the various threads on that one. A closet bandster I will be. I this the operation scars are so close to a gall bladder surgery. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. When I'm a siz 8 insteady of a 20. I don't give a hoot who knows.

Thanks again, Debby

Hey Debbydo, I'm rustling up April Bandsters, how are you coming along? Will you make it in April? Look for the April 2005 Bandsters Thread and post there if applicable, otherwise, fill us in on your progress!...

I think I will one of the early May bandsters. I have my final consultation with the surgeon on 3/17 and then off to insurance review. I have a huge family trip planned April 23- April30 with my family, my parents ans two of my aunts to Disney world. The thought of being 2-3 weeks post op scares me with this crowd. I'm planning on advoiding the family eating thing for awhile after my band. I've decided to ce a closet bandster. So big ole family trip it not the place to start the healing process. I'm hoping for the first week in May. It would be a beautiful wedding anniversary present for me and DH. A promise of a healthier me! Thanks so much for thinking of me.

Debbie, that would be a wonderful wedding anniversary for both of you! Sounds like everything is falling into place. So happy for you. I've chosen to be a closet bandster too.

No spell check, but we're not worrying about each other's spelling anyway. LOL

Marie,

Ok my double secret goal that I'm putting out there for all of you to see. I want to be healthly and all that stuff but my totally vain goal is: I want to wear my penwar set (lingerie) that I wore on my wedding night for our 10 year aniversay on May 4,2006.

I didn't tell DH but I'm sure he'll just love it!!!!!

Hi Debby. Good luck to you w/your insurance. I have CIGNA PPO & they wouldn't pay a dime. I was self-pay in Mexico & it cost $9,500. Now my 17yr. old might do it--more loans, credit cards, but it would be worth it.

Anyway, I STILL haven't told my mother! She'd be horrified that I went to TJ--I'll tell her when I'm 135! (lbs. not years). She was born to worry, and I can't take it. We only live about 1 hour away from each other & I definately owe her a visit. I've been able to get away w/not seeing her cause my hubby has been ill, so we've had to cancel a couple of times, but I really must go in the next couple of weeks. I'm guessing she'll notice 30+ lbs. gone. I might have a moment of weakness, but I hope not.

Nobody @ work knows either, they just think I'm very successfully dieting! I did tell them I had to have some bile duct surgery when I was out from work. What a hoot!

Good luck & keep us posted.

Karen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
