Funny things happen when you start to age.

It certainly should be worth the trade off to be thin! One of my main motivations to do the band was to not get diabetes. I have a strong family history of diabetes and that's one thing I REALLY didn't want! Of course I don't want wrinkles either!:)

My birthday is May 26th.

Glorybee123:

I have lost 100 pounds as of today. I'm 48 years old and was always proud of the fact that I didn't have any wrinkles. Unfortunately, fat hides them. Once alot of my fat was gone - probably when I lost 70 pounds I started noticing a few wrinkles where my third chin used to be.

I figure that a face lift can take care of that if it really bothers me.

Good luck with your band.

Sue

I'm so glad you gals brought up the wrinkles discussion. It's definitley been on my mind as well. The fat does hide the wrinkles. Having always been told that I don't look my age, just turned 56, and that I don't have any lines or wrinkles, I'm figuring that's all gonna change.

Of course, seeing my waistline would be nice too - and tieing my tennies while breathing...

Yes, I know you can't have it all, but it doesn't stop me from wanting it!

Hi All -

Talking about triple chins and wrinkles reminds me of something I read on the Aussie Lap Band website not too long ago. To tighten the loose skin under your chin try tilting your head back and "kissing the sky". Make kissing motions and you'll feel it in your neck and under your chin. I try to do 25 at a time, and do it when I'm alone - like sitting in the bathroom:redface:.

I am scheduled for my first fill in two days and am very excited about getting some restriction back. Even though I've lost 26 #'s in 9 weeks, I'm looking forward to a consistent losing pattern.

O.K.

This is really hard...I have 4 1/2 months left to be in my forties. I will turn 50 in May! I'm telling you where did the years go! I never dreamed I would ever be 50! I had my surgery May 07.

I have lost 47 pds and have 40 pds to go! Like someone said...where my other chin used to be is now just loose skin! And I relate to the other person that had the experience with the hand mirror! Sometimes when I get out of the shower and I of course don't have my glasses on..I'll catch a glimpse of this stanger in the mirror and almost run for the shot gun screaming..who are you..get out of my house! Then I see that it is just me! Boy, this all takes some getting used to! But, along with the fine lines comes a beauty inside that I wouldn't trade for the world. It is a true benefit of getting older. Wisdom. Dontcha just like yourself so much better than when you were younger and thinner. I sure do. I would'nt trade who I am today..for the skin or the body I had at 20. No way!

Blessings y'all and I'll be part of the 50 group (ouch that hurt) even though I am still 49 and a half. Nanner nanner!

Weazer

LOL! U all are to funny. I turned 50 in July and I too have a hubby 9 year older! Yes I get told all the time I don't look my age. Which is nice I guess. I do not fell like I am 50, mentally some days I feel like I am 80, LOL! Seriously, I know I will look like one of those winkle dogs. I have an installed zipper (old style c section) that is 26 years old so my tummy is a giggle mess anyway. I can just imagine what it will be like once I am banded and have lost my 80 lbs. Lord help me! LOL

After losing a few pounds, and having my 55th birthday on it's way soon (may) , you just start looking in the mirror a little less hard at your self. Things are just starting to get a little lose......ladies. I was out shopping in Hobby Lobby with my aunt the other day looking for a small table mirror. I picked up the mirror....held it down by my waist and for some reason at that moment while looking down I decided to check my lip stick. For a split second looking back at me was not me but someone that looked like Betty White. You know ...of the Golden Girls. I said to my aunt, Oh my God I just saw Betty White in the mirror, dimples and all. She started laughing and took off in a flash for the bath room. When she came back I told her that I think its time for a hair style change.

By the way, my lip stick was just fine....no lines running up to my nose. I told my Mom that I think I'm getting old. She said well I'm 20 years older then you....how do you think I feel.

I said, Like Maud's Mom?

Has anyone else had something like this happen to them?

Crazycat

I just read your thread and I am still cracking up!! Laughter is truly the best medicine for everything, thank-you.

Hi chell and Miss Vicki!

Laugter is the best medicine!

Chell, When are you having your surgey? I am so excited for you.

I did my monthly weigh in on Feb 1rst and have lost another 4 lbs so I am down 51lbs! Whoo Hoo. So far this month I feel like I am really doing good on the wght loss...I feel it in my gut (ba dump pa) that I'm already down into the 170's. I am so happy this is working. Don't be fooled. It is allot of hard work and will power. You have to get adjustments even when you don't want to...or at least I did. I am at 3.25 cc's in a 4cc band so it is pretty tight. I am anxious to get my wght off and I will reward myself by having some taken out. Of course I'll be trying my very hardest to not gain the wght off. If I do start to gain back..I'll have to get it put back in. It does get alittle old eating Soup and softer stuff all the time.

Well, let us know how it goes!

Praise be to God!

Lisa

Hi Lisa, I'm so happy for you and your accomplishments. Can I ask why you don't like to get the fills, are they painful? All the info I can get helps. Vicki

Hi Ladies,

I'm glad you all enjoyed my funny story. I'm sure any day now another one will fall out from just no where. I have found that when I put a funny spin on life it's just more fun that way.

Vicki - I don't mind getting fills at all. I love having the option of getting one when I start eating more. Plus my PA does a little numbing shot first so they don't hurt. What I don't like is when I have a slightly to tight fill. But, I had to be aggressive with my fills because I am stubborn and will eat too much with out the tightness. It has really paid off. The wght is coming off perfectly. Yesterday I had an entire day without a PB (I usually have at least one a day). I am happy about that. To me it means that it is loosening up a bit on it's own. Also, the more wght I loose...my band should get looser to (that's according to my doctor). maybe i wont have to have an unfill after all. Just be sure that going into this you know that it is not easy, it does take work, persaverence and will power (but the band makes it much easier that it was before. It is a blessings). In years past when I would start to gain wght back...I would never get back on track. The band has made it possible to get back on track each set back. Now the wght loss is really showing! I love my band!!!!!

Terry - Nothing better than a person with a sence of humor.

Blessings, Lisa

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I know this probably sounds really stupid but what is a PB? Several people have mentioned it in their comments and I haven't a clue what they are talking about?!! Vicki

Hi there. I have no clue when I will have it done, if at all. I am in the research stage. I use the Veterans Hospital in Philly Pa and the nutritionist there said I have to do 3 to 6 months supervised diet before they will allow her to make the referral. Once I get past that point I will let everyone know my next stage.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
