I had surgery on a tuesday was back to work on the following Monday (desk job)

I lost 100 lbs in 1 yr 1 week (150) and now 140 15 months out.

I was on full liquids for 10 days (includes creamed soups) mushies 10 days and soft 10 day then on to regurlar - There is a food thread with tons of great ideas for foods- but if I remember correctly - I ate Soups for the 1st 10 days with sf pudding - Protein shakes and fudgecicles - mushies - mashed potatoes - refried Beans - spagh sauce with ricotta cheese - veggies cooked to death zuchinee & yellow squash - Soft Fish was added.

I was banded on 7-2-08 and have lost 62 pounds. YES it was worth it. I love the fact that I can actually feel full without eating everything in the house. I have not felt deprived at all. food has been my best friend almost my whole life. The decision to let this friend go was the hardest part of this journey. But, the rewards are well worth it. I was able to stop taking blood pressure medicine within the first month of the surgery. Try to stay away from sugar after the surgery. Make Protein your priorty for eating. Protein will make you feel full and help you keep your strength up. Good Luck

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
