i still eat a little to fast

Recommended Posts

i am now 7 weeks out and find myself eating fast like i always used to. at first for the first month i would get food stuck if i didnt chew well or if i ate to fast but now nothing gets stuck. i am not taking 1/2 hour to eat my food, im lucky to make it to 15 min. i know that i need to slow down but its a bad habit of mine. i hope that im not hurting anything by doing this.

Andrea I'm having the same issue. I am also 7 weeks (almost 8) out. I've lost 26 pounds, with no loss the last two weeks. I'm fine at Breakfast and lunch, but dinner is a problem for me. I eat probably more than I should, and also way to fast. I think if I slowed down, I would fill up easier. I also don't feel "full" when I'm eating. I finish my plate and feel fine, then an hour later my tummy hurts BAD. this is now happening every night. It's weird. It doesn't seem to matter how much I eat either. It hurts whether I stick to the plan or eat more than I should. I wish I was getting this overfull sensation WHILE I was eating. It would make pushing the plate away easier. This NEVER happens in the morning or at lunch. I'm not sure what to think.

have any of you had a fill yet? cause with fills yes you feel more restricted in the morning and afternoon but when it comes to night time you do have less restriction so maybe after another fill you have more restriction and feel full quicker. try taking a bite set the spoon or fork down chew chew chew chew swallow then pick up the spoon or fork again. this might help slow you down and get you full faster.

Can i ask why do you have more restriction in the morning and afternoon than you do in the evening? I am 2 weeks post op with my 2nd band and once I had a fill i had the same restriction all day,for me it didnt matter what time of the day it was.

Me too... I think you can eat fast when you don't have a lot of restriction because I couldn't when I did. Some things still get stuck though so it makes me think about what I'm doing. I'm going for my next fill on the 23rd so hopefully that should force me to slow down.

I realized after I had the band for about 6 weeks that I wasn't sticking to the band rules. At that point I started looking at my watch when I was eating. I would take a bite chew a bit, swallow sometime put the fork down other times played with the food on my plate. Whe the second hand on my watch hit 1 minute I'd start all over again.

I not only started timing myself but I started timing others. One day I went to Boston Market. I saw someone pull into a spot and I started timing him. From the time he got out of his car came in stood online ordered ate and got back into his car it was 12 minutes.

Have fun start timing your self and others. You may drive your family crazy like I do, but your sticking with the band rules and that is what leads to success!

I take 20-30 minutes a meal, but rarely any less.

i had my first fill last friday and have noticed a little bit of restriction. i can drink a 8oz sf instant carnation breakfast at 7:30 and be ok until 12:00 and i usually do ok at lunch but sometimes at dinner i can eat more if im not careful. i go for another appointment in 5 weeks so i may ask for another small fill. my first fill was .5cc in a 4cc band. i lost 4 pounds in 5 days so if this keeps up i wont need another fill for a while. i did gain 1pound today but i kind of ate alot yesterday. is it normal to flex up and down a pound or to? sirusman you have lost so much weight without a fill that good, most people cant do that, it must be working well for you. i have to say that all of you seem to be doing well so far. as far as eating to fast i need to be more cautious of this so i wont have problems down the road.

I'm only 6 days post-op, but my nutritionist suggested if we have trouble eating too quickly, to immediately divide our 4 oz portion into 4 sections. Then eat on section as slowly as possible, putting the fork down, etc. Then wait 5 min before starting the next section. This is supposed to help your brain get the full message before you overfill.

I know this problem too, I am guilty and I am really trying hard to focus on it, I have no fill and I am 8 weeks out and I have lost 31 pounds with no weight loss for the past two weeks......I am getting in my Protein and then some every day.....and I am doing exactlly what they told me as for portions. I am eating between 800 and 1000 calories a day.

I eat so fast sometimes I am done in 15 minutes.....I have to remember to slow slow down, it is so hard when you are weak, I get weak I do not get hunger pains.

I know everything you say is true and I do need to start timing this, I think I will go back to the beginning and use my timer again.

It is so easy to fall back into the old habits.

I am not suppose to eat quicker than 30 to 45 minutes. any longer than that though and you pouch can empty causing you to eat even more.

You know, I don't really think that anyone needs to have a clock on their meal. I would be hard-pressed to take a full 30 minutes to eat a meal. But that being said, you should take very small bites, put your fork DOWN between bites....chew a BUNCH of times, and then swallow. More than anything right now, this is in preparation and training for good restriction. You CAN eat faster now, but when that restriction comes, that is the LAST thing in the world you will want to be doing and is a solid gold recipe for disaster.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
