Anyone having problems with constipation?

Recommended Posts

Hey - I have BIG problems with Constipation. I eat lots of fruit, take a lot of metamucil capsules (like 8 a day) and I still have constipation. In fact, to be honest (this is gross but true), it caused a fissure and now I am having a lateral sphincterotomy in a couple of weeks time so the fissure will heal. Going to the toilet has been painful for me since the operation.

I actually don't know what to do to fix this issue, I guess drink lots and lots of Water. laxatives usually stop working after a while, you need more for it to work. ;)

Embarrassingly - I have this exact same fissure problem (I was banded May 2007). From the transition to food after surgery, I got a fissure too. Took 2 months to diagnose by several clinics and finally my primary doctor, and then I had topical Rx treatment to help. It did, but every 2 - 4 weeks it gets re-aggravated. Not as severe as originally, but enough that I keep using the Rx lidocaine (sp?) to numb it. I'm contemplating the same procedure you mentioned, but I haven't pulled the trigger because it's only a minor inconvenience twice a month right now. Not nearly as bad as when it first started. But it seems like it never fully heals or goes away - hence my consideration for surgery like you're doing.

Fiber One bars keep me regular. I take CVS brand stool softeners. But I have a hard time swallowing them depending on my tightness and time of day (won't go down, or gives me heartburn). And with this type of problem, it just takes ONE bad episode and the whole cycle starts all over. But I'm VERY interested in how you procedures goes (or went, if you've already had it). Please post how it goes or private email me - just post a note here and I'll give you my private email. Thanks for any insight. I haven't found ANYBODY that has this same problem as me or willing to admit it.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
