I'm in the area. Nice to see so many locals on here. I'm hoping to be banded soon but my employer has it as a 'specific exception' so UHC won't cover it. Maybe self pay, if I can scrape up the dough.

Hey Jacksonville! I will try this again to hear from locals....I thought it would be nice to get a walking group going here! We could walk at malls or parks. Take our dogs........ Some of us would be able to get out once a week at least!

Hello! I just had an appointment with Dr. Baptista and found out that his clinic is giving away a free weight loss surgery. Thought it would be nice to spread the word since I love him and I think that there are people out there who might benefit from it. I sure did it! Sign up is through the clinic's website www.jaxsurgical.com. The contest ends soon so let everyone know!

Hi, Jax Group. I too am in Jacksonville. My surgery was done 7/7/ll by Dr, Cywes and I had revision surgery on 4/25/14 with Dr. Uchal. I no longer have my band but I do have Gastric Sleeve Plication. Still trying to adjust to the new device and trying to decided what and how to eat. This has really been a "journey" alright and parts of it I would just as soon forget. But, anyway, it is sure to nice to find others in Jacksonville on this site. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Hi, I am in Jax and would LOVE to talk to somebody, or email, or something. Had my lapband surgery in Nov of this year, have only lost 40lbs since surgery, plus 20 in pre-op. Haven't been able yet to attend a support meeting at St Vincents. Just need some encouragement if anyone has the time, thanks !! Rosemary

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
