Hi guys, my name is Lisa and I live in Denver right now but I used to live in Jacksonville.

I hopped onto this board to see if I could find anyone to connect with for motivation, support and good conversation :tt2: I miss Jacksonville with ALL my heart and was hoping I could get a feeling like I really am not all that far from it if I met some banders from there! Anyone out there ?

Oh yeah and although I didn't live in Jacksonville my whole life...I did live there for a few years. I lived in Southside near JTB and Gate...then I moved to Jax Beach (or north PVB) on PV Lakes Blvd. What part of town are ya'll at?

I've only lived here for a few years. I'm actually in college at FSU. but my parents live in Fleming Island. I had Dr. Baptista and he did an amazing job. I have some pain in the port area and some small gas pain, but nothing unmanageable! I have family that lives in Denver and I'm actually flying there in May. How long ago did you get banded?

I have been approved and have a surgery date too. I actually began my "liquid" diet yesterday and I must say WOW am I ever hungry and does my head hurt! My big question is What exactly is a liquid diet? I put a call into my doc's office by my girl is out for the day....I've read and re-read the paperwork she gave me and I can't find anything other than Adkins Advantage and broth...Please help if you can..My surgeon is Dr. Stankard.....

I'm studying at FSU. I'm a international affairs major and actually am not taking classes this semester so i can focus on my surgery and such. But I'm sooo ready to go back for summer! I haven't had to live with my parents for 3 years and now all the sudden it feels like High school! I'm not sure what part of Denver my family lives in. I havn't been there to see them in so long, they always come see us! But I'm really excited to fly there. And the weather today is amazing. It's a little cold, about 60, but clear blue sky. I drove over to the beach today just to get out of the house and it was just so amazing.

Well when I was on the liquid diet I had to have nothing but Water (my surgeon wanted 1 gallon a day) and some chicken broth. It REALLY sucked but was worth it because I had a perfect liver and I'm healing great after the surgery. Good luck!

Has anyone noticed the full page ads in the FL Times Union over the past few weeks promoting gastric banding in Jacksonville? Finally, local doctors are offering weight loss solutions to those of us who are not "medically approved." Now, if they could be competitive with Mexico prices---hmmm.

I really enjoyed the Springin' the Blues Festival at the beach this past weekend. The weather was fabulous, I rented a place for the weekend and had an awesome time. I'm not as self-conscious about myself in public. I wore shorts & tank top.

How long did it take from the consultation until you had your surgery? I'm going to Dr. Webb's weekly seminar before I can go to his consultation. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield and am anxious to get the surgery going.

I am mark in jacksonville, lost 70 lbs from surgery in Mexico, where do you get your fills????

Hey Mark, Could you tell me where you went in Mexico? It's so expensive here and I'm really nervous about going to another Country. Are you 100% happy with your decision? Thanks, Leesa

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
