Getting Banded Next Week

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am so glad to have found this site! I am scheduled for surgery on 1/16 and I am more than a little nervous about it. I have never had any kind of surgery at all and I really do not know what to expect.

One thing I really want to know is why do so many people try to scare the life out of you once you tell them about this? It seems I have heard more horror stories about "routine surgeries" gone wrong in the last few weeks than ever before. Not to mention those who constantly tell you of others who are failing in their weight loss Quest.< /p>

So, if you have some positive advice and/or encouragement I could really use that about now.

Thanks

-vko

vko,

My Mom and I are both being banded on the 16th also. I did much research and asked many questions before deciding to do this proceedure. As I was told the band is only a tool and we still have to make the right food choices and we must exercise to have the band be effective. I to haven't had surgery and am a little nervous, I just keep concentrating on the benifits I will receive if I adhere to my surgeons' and nutritionist guidlines. Being on the pre-op diet has helped make me aware of my motivations to raid the kitchen every couple of hours, I've found it has definatly taken mental energy to drink just shakes! But so far so good! We only have a week to go now, we can definatly do this! Best of luck to you on your surgury and keep us posted of your progress. LBT has many answers and lots of support, we are NOT in this alone! Best wishes, Pike

I am also a little nervous. My date for banding is 1-19. I am going to Mexico and than makes me a little bit more nervous. I just have to keep reminding myself that "it is normal" to be a little big nervous before any surgery. Everything will be ok. Think of how good being thin will feel. Keep chanting in your head -"I WILL SURVIVE and I WILL DEFEAT THIS BATTLE" We all need to start singing that song...."I will survive by Gloria Gainer....lol....

Today - just purchased a lot of liquid vitamins and 2 cases of Protien drinks. The brand is Body Lean - great taste and has 40 gms of Protien - o surgar and no carbs. So I am gearing up....LETS GEAR UP TOGETHER...REFUSE TO listen to the negative.......

TO BE BANDED

Good luck to all of you. I am being banded on the 16th January as well. VKO the horror stories always make some people feel better. My husband and I travel a lot and you can bet every time we are going to take a flight there is an air crash documentory on TV just to get my nerves going. You will be fine, just keep thinking positive. This is what I keep telling myself. I have had previous surgeries that I had to have but still feel nervous about this. I think that is a normal thing. Just keep reading all the positive things that people have to say on here. Good luck to every one.(including me).

So know what you mean. Even though I read up on the surgery, spoke with other patients, read the forums....

Reality sets in when you've had the surgery. Nothing can compare.

I'm so glad I did it and wish I would have done it sooner. I find myself skipping, singing in the shower, just happier! I'm a size 6 now from a 22w.... I ate too much yesterday and slimed. So grateful to have the band help me maintain my weight!

Good luck!

Hi GraceUtah.

You have done so great. Just looked at your ticker and noticed how much weight you have lost. You must feel wonderful.

Good on you.

Hi Y'all,

it is TOTALLY normal to have all of those thoughts racing thru your head and even second guess yourself as to whether you are doing the right thing or not, but take it from me, I am 2 days post op and other than a little soreness at the port site, i feel incredible! not hungry at all! you have to really be careful as it is best to take just a shot class at a time of ANY liquid, it works for me and I learned the hard way, on my first day post op, I drank too much too fast and had to run and I mean run to the bathroom, dont do that!!! take a shot glass at time and you will feel wonderful. I cant wait to see my surgeon in a weeek, I have been following directions to a t and let me tell you it is worth it, dont think you know more than they do, do it, follow the directions and you will be successful and more importantluy you will feel FANTASTIC! dont be afraid of the unknown, afterwards you will see you had nothing to worry about, they are professionals and perform surgeries every single day, it is very routine to them, dont worry and good luck!

your fellow bandster and hot mama in the making!!!!!

I know what you mean. It's kind of like when you buy a new car. For the first few weeks you notice many more of the same model than you ever had. The media don't tend to talk about success stories with WLS, only the ones that went pear-shaped. Just last night in Australia they said that lapband surgery was "drastic".

Read through the post-op posts, you will find most people have good experiences post op, albeit with a little discomfort. Before and after pics are also a great inspiration. A must-read is the "would you do it again?". the majority of people would do it all over again and they are very happy.

I'm being banded a day before you on the 15th. Want to keep in touch so we can encourage each other?

Jen

VKO~ It makes you not want to tell anyone you're having it done, huh? I don't have my procedure scheduled yet but it will be the beginning or middle of February. Just come to us for encouragement. :D I've only told 3 people so far and 1 of them said "well, blah, blah, blah"....I chose to tune her out. hee hee

By the way, I don't know how to PM but I think we share a last name. Small world.

Hi Greeneyez,

Yes, lets keep in touch and "band" together. It think it will be easier to have someone there that knows what the heck I am talking about.

I have heard of people going to Mexico to have surgery but have never met any one who has done so. I hope all goes well for you and that you meet and exceed all of your goals.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
