It Wasn't Slipped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

It turns out it wasn't slipped. It was way too tight!!! The barium wouldn't even go through. On the down side, my esophagus is enlarged. He took out all of the fill & we will start from scratch in 3 weeks. :whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo:

Good and bad news, Jessiebear. And the bad news ain't that bad. I've heard tell that after a prolonged unfill, you don't need near as much to achieve good restriction. Here's hoping that all turns out well.

Thank you!! I had some pain initially. Doc put me on some carafate four times a day. I am back to normal again. I went for almost a month with periods of being unable to eat or drink & aspirating many times through the night. My stoma was extremely irritated. He wants me to start over in 3 weeks with the fills. It feels weird not having any fill after being filled so tight for so long. I had the same fill for 2 years.

Jessiebear, I'm curious what your weightloss pattern has been like. You said you had the same fill for 2 years, banded for 3, but you're a little over half way to your goal. Have you steadily lost the 90lbs over 3 years?

I lost the first 50 in the first 5-6 months. The rest was a steady loss up until the last 6 months. The last 6 months I have been maintaining. The last 6 months have totally been my fault. I have a new job & we get catered lunches everyday. When I went in for my unfill, the nurse gave me a card that shows not enough fill, optimal fill & too tight, with the accompanying "symptoms?" listed under each one. According to the card, I have been too tight since my last fill.

My experience mirrors yours! As of this week (after having my first fluro), I'm on 4 Medifast and one tiny meal per day for the next three weeks to try to get my pouch and esophagus back to "normal" size. If that doesn't work, I'll have to have the surgery again. Not excited about that prospect at all...I think I only have to pay for the anesthesia which is about $1,000 but still would rather not have to do it period!

I'm hopeful that I can improve my situation over the three weeks. I'm going to stay strict to the diet they set for me as I want this to work; I've come too far for it not to. I'll be meeting with my doctor on Feb. 6th after another fluro to get the verdict.

I'm staying positive about this. I got myself in this mess and of course can't help but kick my own bu** a little however, I not going to dwell on it...I'll just make the necessary changes and learn from the experience. This was a good wake up call for me.

How's it going for you now Jessiebear?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
