North Alabama (Huntsville) Support Group

Recommended Posts

I haven't heard if anyone has found a place to have it. I did hear about there being one on Decatur but I live in Fayetteville so that's really out of the way. I am willing to drive to Madison though, as I work in Huntsville.

Hi Everyone,

I'm scheduled to have my surgery on May 8th. I'm excited, but a little nervous. I agree that we NEED a support group in Huntsville or Madison. I hope we can work it out. Did someone mention the public library earlier?

Donna:rolleyes2:

New support meetings for Lap-band patients!

Dr. Britt and Dr. Groves will be providing monthly support meetings this month. The meetings will alternate between Marshall Medical North in Guntersville and Marshall Medical South in Albertville. See the following link to view their calendar for dates and time.

http://www.samc.stirsite.com/page/page/2453219.htm

Just a note for all those wishing to use Dr. Britt or Dr. Groves. They no longer have a Madison Office and will not be holding any more seminars in Huntsville/Madison. Their last 2 seminars only produced 3 attendees each. Seminars will now be held in Guntersville or Albertville.

With the high level of care and compassion these great doctors have for their patients, it is worth the drive to Guntersville or Albertville. Their aftercare and wonderful staff makes them the best choice in Alabama in my opinion. They are doing Lap-Band surgery 2-3 days a week now. They believe in the surgery and the need to provide great after care with follow up visits and fills (adjustments).

Also ... Huntsville Hospital has added gastric banding support groups. You can come to these meetings even if your surgery wasn't done in Huntsville Hospital or by certains doctors.

GASTRIC BANDING MEETINGS ARE HELD AT THE HUNTSVILLE HOSPITAL MEDICAL MALL ON THE FIRST THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH AT 5:00PM AND THE THIRD WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH AT 10:00AM.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
