I have a skim latte every day but it wasn't allowed in my first 2 weeks after being banded. What does your doc say?

My doc doesn't forbid it. She did point out that it is a diuretic that stimulates gut motility and increases appetite however. Probably best to avoid, but I guess I already knew that...

If it's not banned then I guess it's your decision. I've always been a one coffee a day drinker so I'm happy to continue doing that. It's also a social thing for me... I usually pop out to the cafe near work with someone every day for a cuppa.

My docs papers I received after the surgery said 2 8oz cups, a day are ok. So I have one caffinated tea in the morning, and occasionally a cup of coffee in the afternoon.

I have also found that by putting my chocolate Unjury in my coffee I have an instant mocha plus 20 grms of Protein. That has been my morning drink lately. I didn't drink a lot of coffee before I got banded, but now that I don't drink diet coke anymore I am able to get a little caffeine.

I have coffee every day, all day! I'm not a fan of plain Water and prior to my band was a soda drinker - diet, but still soda. When I gave them up, coffee was a natural substitute. I do drink FUZE low carb, iced tea and crystal light. But, the majority of my liquid comes from coffee. My nutritionist and doc both know it and are OK with it.

I was not told that we could not have caffeine...but prior to surgery, I was super addicted to it.. so I decided I was doing the surgery for my health, so I should go ahead and kick that caffeine habit too..I'm very thankful that I was able to do it with out suffering from extreme headaches/withdrawal to badly.. I was a Diet soda addict... and now I drink propel... they have TONS of flavors to choose from. :)

I was told caffeine is OK, I have a non-fat latte in the morning. Both for the caffeine and a little protien.

I am a MAJOR coffee addict. It is my only vice, I don't drink, smoke, and now I don't do chocolate anymore. It's the only thing I have left. I used to drink a pot a day, I tapered off before surgery. I was told to leave it off for at least 3 days, due to dehydration. Once you are getting enough fluids and are adequately hydrated, they say it is ok. Now I drink 1 maybe 2 cups and I am done. I threw my old pot away and got a Hamilton Beach hot beverage station (something like that) and brew one cup at a time. I seem to be satisfied with that.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
