APS Band FILL protocol

Recommended Posts

Well...that explains it. Those measurements are the measurements my doc has been following. I couldn't figure out why my fills were so much smaller than everyone elses, but now I know...he goes by the book.

Thanks for sharing that info!

I went for my first fill. It was 14cc, the doctor indicated the band was VG. The fill was for only 2cc. Seems like everyone else is getting 5cc on their first fill. I wonder why there are such differences in fills?

I have the APL, I've had one fill @ 2cc.

I read some info from late '07 that seemed to indicate the percent of first year EWL for the APS (52%,i believe) was better than the APL (in the 40%s). To me, that indicates that they should be a little more aggressive with the APL protocol, IMHO.

Granted, I have not seen any studies since that study back then. I would love to see a newer one if anyone has it.

What I am looking for is a study showing average 12 to 18 month results with APS vs APL as well as others such as the Realize etc.

Hey M Taylor, that pdf is part of what I am talking about. The data shown is like from 2000, before APS/APL and updated follow-up care and protocols.

They really need a more up-to-date set of numbers. It's been 2 or 3 years now since APS/APL came out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
