I have posted information several times on this site and no one has responded even once. What do I have to do to be acknowledged here? Is this a closed clique or what? sufina

I am terribly sorry you feel that way... I am in no way trying to shut anyone out. I normally only respond to things that I have input on otherwise I would have to post something to every person that I read about. We're all here to be supportive of one another and I would like to support you in anyway I can.

If you have a question for me feel free to ask. I can't speak for the others on the board but I am sure they are here for the same reasons ;)

I had my bloodwork a week or so before the pre-op so he would have the results in hand by the time the pre-op happened.

Thank you for your response.

Hmm.. I think Rosemary there is tired of hearing from me.. I think I will just wait until the pre op appt. I have tons of questions that I didn't pose when I met with them before because I had to do the 6 month diet first. I need to find out what size and brand of band they are using and if they put any in the band at the time. I dont have pre op appt till 6 days before my surgery so I am not sure they would have the blood work back in time if thats when they would do it ;)

Hi Sufina,

I am sorry nobody answered your posts. We weren't ignoring you, at least I wasn't. I don't know Dr Fitzpatrick, is he in Eugene? I notice you are in Portland is he there? The only surgeons I know in Eugene are Drs. Umbach and Yarbrough at the Oregon Bariatric Center at Sacred Heart Medical Center....Kathy

Brandy, The bloodwork can still get to the DR in time. The lab usually faxes it to them. As for the brand I believe the brand is Allergan (Lapband) and the two sizes they use are the 4cc and the 10cc. The 4cc is the most common size they use. At least that is what I was told. Hope this answers your questions. Any questions I can answer for you I will, and I don't think Rosemary minds answering questions either. She is a very nice lady.

Well, good, at least I know someone reads what I have written. I did not know how to find this out and was feeling very frustrated like no one was there. I want to feel part of this process and have never chatted online or posted things before and have been trying to figure out the technical parts of it in order to relate to others who, like me, want to get their bodies to respond to and manage food intake in healthy ways. I get banded may 7 in mexico by Dr. Ortiz and can get fill from a dr. kelly fitzpatrick here in portland, who, apparently does the surgery and will do fills for those who got banded elsewhere so that's good; too expensive to fly to mexico for a fill each time. I didn't even know what a fill was until tuning in to these website forums. So, thanks brandy and kathi for your responses to me; I really appreciate that. warmly, sufina:tt2:

Hi Sufina, I spend a ton of time researching everything on this site. You will find it all very helpful! I spend most of my time in the pre op section since most of the threads there will answer questions all the questions I had about the procedure and what to expect. I am not sure if I would of been ready for all that comes with lap band if I hadn't read this forum.

Sufina,

Good luck to you in your banding next month. I am glad you were able to find a doctor willing to give you fills locally. I know it is hard because many doctors aren't willing to take on a patient from a doctor in Mexico. Hope all goes well for you........Kathy

Hey everyone, I'm just getting starting on this process. I am going to the informational seminar this next Thursday at Riverbend. I would like to know how everyone decided to go with the Lap Band procedure instead of the Gastric Bypass? Do they go over all of this information with you at the Informational Seminar? Thanks, Stacy. ;)

Hi and welcome Stacyjo. I had pretty much decided that Gastric Bypass was not for me. I have always thought it to be too invasive for myself. I had read up on the Lapband procedure though and this forum has just about any answer you have a question for. They will go over both surgeries in the information seminar. Good luck to you and if I can answer any of your questions I would be happy to do so. I had my surgery March 26, 2008 and so far I've lost 82 pounds. I am so happy that I chose lapband.

Hi Everyone, I'm new and looking in to a lap band....I'm in Eugene and will be self pay I think...but that I'm not sure of yet either. Has everyone been happy with the Eugene center for this? Anyone done self pay? Costs?

I'm also looking in to a guy in CoosBay because his self pay is considerably cheaper than going to Portland to get it done...just not sure about after care.

Thanks everyone!

Welcome to LBT

Just wanted to say Hi Brandy.....I'm Jen and I'm in Eugene..considering a Lap Band pretty seriosly now. You and I are close in age (I'm 30, your 33) so I'm interested to get to know you a little better and some first hand info on the place in Eugene and the care they provide as well as follow up care.

I currently don't have health insurance..but might soon be getting something LIKE Oregon Health plan called LIPA because I've been out of work due to health conditions and there's no unemployment and no jobs I can work. woohoo. Either way.....insurance or not I NEED this surgery and want to start a new life. I want to be able to keep up with my beautiful three yeear old.

How long has it been since you had your surgery? Did you have any other medical problems as well? are you happy so far? has the eating been a BIG adjustment??

Sorry so many questions...I just noticed you were in my age range.

Thanks, Jen:cool2:

I too have always felt that gastric bypass is too invasive for me as well...and not easily reversible. I JUST found a friend of mine has a lap band (she didn't share the news with the world of course) but she's lost so much weight and I can't help but wish for that...instead of yo-yo dieting for the rest of my life. I have REASONS the weight is there..and reasons I can't get it off easily....so the good "diet and excercise" isn't an option for me...it doesn't work that way.

I'm interested in this seminar. Is it free? Do I need to sign up...how often do they do them? and do they have a website with some more info? I beleive the seminar is at Riverbend....I would be interested in finding one. (and in addition some lovely ladies here in Eugene for support through this process)

Thanks ahead of time, I'm on a posting flurry tonight.

Jen:laugh:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
