Home and Banded!!

Recommended Posts

Hi Chrisann-- How are you doing? I've been thinking about you, knowing that you had some rocky times shortly after surgery. Is it getting any better? I'm sure it will soon! I'm pretty sore today, just laying around and taking it easy. Trying to drink a lot of liquids and go for a short walk every couple of hours. Our bodies are amazing creations and time will heal these wounds. Jim

So glad to hear that you're doing good Jim. I was banded yesterday and at this point I think the most pain has come from the blood pressure cuff and the iv insertion and removal!!!

It was emotionally taxing for me though cause they walked me to the operating room and positioned me on the table and everything before they knocked me out. I guess I'm not one of those people who enjoys walking to the operating room. It made me nervous while I was laying on the table waiting for the surgeon so the anesthsiologist (sp?) gave me something for that. All I remember is someone saying "He's Here" and the next thing I was waking up in recovery.

Jim -

So glad your surgery went well! Mine was on the 2nd and our experiences are very similar. (I did freak out as the surgery approached and I'm lying there with IV in my hand.) I am on day 6 post-op and all is well. I have weaned myself from the pain meds. I still have gas pains throughout shoulder area and I have to remind myself not to do too much. I find myself very hungry as I make meals for my son and husband - but I am making this a total "mind over matter" thing. I WILL follow the post-op eating instructions because I paid a lot of money for this - and to me its a minor price to pay to be thin and healthy in the future. Thursday I can start Full liquid Diet which includes Soup, yogurt, mashed potatoes, etc. - I CAN DO THIS!

Hooray to us! Things will be great in 2008! I have not officially updated my ticker because I want to go by doctor's scale (tomorrow appt.) - but my scale says 15 lb weightloss since starting pre-op diet! Woohoo!!

Jim, Everyday is getting better. I think its the muscles from the heaving and the hernia repair that are getting to me pain wise.

I am still not hungry, and can't get down Protein drinks, I am primarily still on broth, with tea, some carnation instant Breakfast and ice pops.

I emailed the nutritionist today to maybe add some creamy Soups to get me some more nutrition.

I am at work, and taking only a half of the vicodin pill in the afternoon when I feel the bruises on my belly the most.

But it is so uplifting to see all the rest of you guys healing so well and fast.

Good to hear Chrisann. Sounds like NukeChik and racetrackweary are doing great as well. There's another large group being banded today. Hopefully they will check in later.

Hi Jim - I was also banded yesterday, but I just got home from the hosptial today. I feel pretty good, but I'm still sore. My husband is picking up my pain killers now. I should be good for a nice long rest once I get those on board. Glad to hear you did so good!!!!

Thanks guys. I feel much better going to work at this point then sitting home. I am an HR administrator/Office Manager so I am sitting behind a desk most of the time. People understand I can't lift things.

I am dressing kind of funky though. The pants I have without zippers and buttons and really large shirts, because my belly is still sore, and swollen. Not my usual somewhat corporate type stuff. Its weird going to the bathroom and looking at myself dressing so frumpy, but my boss is ok with it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
