How long until I can take a hot bath?

Recommended Posts

My Doc said something about not submerging myself in hotwater post op. I was so tired and wacky that I don't remember the details. Anyone know how long it is until you can take a hot bath or something?

My doctor said not to soak in Water until the stitches were healed, about two weeks or so. Showers were okay as long as I didn't let the waters stream onto the stitches for a long time.

I sat in a really clean bathtub with about 3 inches of water...not touching my scars after about a week. I just had to have a bath!

OH my, I never considered the fact that I wouldn't be able to use my spa for a while! Not that I've used it at all in a month, but you know ... forbidden fruit and all. I better soak it up til surgery. LOL

As soon as the last of your scabs fall off and your incisions are healed, bathe away, is what I was told!

Didn't matter to me much, as I don't even have a bathtub at my house, only a shower stall. I hate baths, anyway.

Oh, I was also told that I only had to wait 2 days to shower, and the only restriction on that was not to scrub the incision areas, and don't get them too wet. Dry incisions heal fastest.

WOW for me I could shower the day after surgery. And soak in a tub a week after surgery. I only had the tape strips. No glue no stiches on the outside.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
