I was banded May 2005. I have never LET myself have much success with my band. Just when I lost about 30 lbs and was heading the right way, boom not a drop of restriction. Went to the dr, they insisted i needed a fill, left there, again no restriction. So i waited a couple weeks, then MADE them check me under flouro. Sure enough, had 1.3cc's when I was supposed to have 9.6cc's. They looked for a leak under flouro and nothing showed. He did feel that my port had flipped and was able to flip it back by hand right there under flouro. I have been on pain meds since he did that for pain at that port site. So flipped port, no saline, but no leak, and not a drop of restriction even after he filled it back up the day he flipped the port.

He told me then that he may have to go in and stitch the port in place IF i hold the saline in my band until I see him next, which is on Friday. I know it hasnt held bc i have no restriction at all. So he said if that was the case then the whole system might need to be replaced. I am hesitant bc i havent had success at all, but maybe the band has always been faulty? I have been considering the bypass if he can take the band out and do the bypass in one shot. But i dont think i can take that risk. I want the band to work for me. I have treated my band horribly, soda, NSAIDS, now I am getting paid back from it. I think I am going to have it replace if thats what he says i need to do, which I am about 85% sure he will tell me that. We will see. Thanks for listening.

So, I went to the Dr. today. I was supposed to have 9.4 cc's in my band and I had 1 cc.

So there is a leak that they cannot find. So this means either have the bamd removed or replaced.

The Dr. told me since my band is from 2005, the newer one is better. I have decided to have it replaced and now am excited.

I too have had the same problem with my band not holding Fluid. I had 2 fills under fluro without seeing the leak. My band was placed in April 07. Like you, I have no restriction. Last month I changed doctors , had a fill done, & have a another appt. on the 16th. I really think that there will be nothing or a very small amount in my band. This has been going on from the very beginning. At this point I am considering a gastric sleeve if this does not work out. Tell us how things turn out for you

I'm so glad that they figured out that it is a leak, even if they can't figure out where the leak is. When is your surgery?

I had been having problems with my band not holding Fluid from the beginning. It had gotten to the point where I was going to have to make a decision on what to do with it. My surgeon has stopped doing bands because he could not keep up with the fills. Whenever I would go in for a fill he always had a lot of difficulty. Well surprise surprise, I went to a different doctor who does a lot more bands & they have no trouble getting into my port. Yesterday, I went for my second fill & the fluid from the first fill was still there. My conclusion for now is the fluid wasn't getting to my band. It was injected into my abdominal tissue. So much for going with the surgeon that your insurance pays for. I was so happy yesterday to see the fluid that had been injected come out I could have kissed the doctor. It has been 8 months since my band was placed & I am just beginning my journey. No wonder all I could manage to lose was 15lbs.:pray2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
